Jeff Gordon

HOF#13

Recommended Posts

All season long here there have been quite a few fans of Jeff Gordon giving us Earnhardt fans the buisness about Jr.'s miserable season and DEI's demise.

But now, even if it is for just one week....We get the chance to give a little back grin.gif....Check the standings:

13. Dale Earnhardt Jr. 2057 -491

15. Jeff Gordon 2046 -502

Not that being in 13th place is really anything to brag about, but with all the talk of how completely awful the #8 team is...and how good the #24 team is...How is the #8 team ahead in points?

So, come on #8 fans...lets enjoy the moment, and please feel free to use this thread to offer our "sympathies" to the #24 faithful. Also, keep in mind that this is all in fun. smile.gif

PS - I will add one thing. Despite the Hendrick and DEI fans hatered for the other team, did you all see the first driver to go to victory lane and congratulate Jr? It was Jimmy Johnson. I thought that was pretty classy. It's nice to see that the driver's for each team get along better together than some of it's fans do. Nothing like fan created rivals. grin.gif

That is very true of the supposed rivalries sometimesbeing fan created myths. Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Sr. owned a number of businesses together and both have said they considered the other a good friend and yet the fans tried to make them bitter rivals too...

As for the 8 vs. 24 points comparisons, the difference is the DNF counts. Up until last week, 24 had run good but has been snakebit with accidents and mechanical failures while the 8's main problem was they were just really slow.

I'm guessing with the way this thread will go.

It's a dark cool nght. There are 100 cars in the Ridgedale parking lot. 50 guys on one side wearing # 24 hats drinking a pepsi, singing "Take me out to the ballgame". blush.gif

On the others side 50 guy's wearing #8 hats drinking Bud singing some 311 song. confused.gif They come to meet each other and Congat each other on the nice run.

Yeah Right. cool.gif

You know, the FOUR TIME CUP CHAMPION (would be five but for the talk "Chase"), Jeff Gordon. The guy who's fire retardant underwear Dale Jr. isn't even fit to carry... The guy with 72 career victories and 54 pole positions.

Never heard of him huh? No wonder you aren't smart enough to never have anyone but 8/15/20 in your top three, you've never even heard of the best NASCAR driver out there...

Ouch, way to pull your punches lawdog. Its really simple, like already stated the DNF's vs. bad cars. I did like how after bliss took out gordan he said something like "I'm just embarrased that we were even back there". And "Back there" is where Jr has been most of the year.

I can't dispute anything you or lawdog are saying...(except maybe the fire-retardant underwear part grin.gif)...

Like I said though...even if it is for just this one week....good 'ol Little E is ahead of Jeff in the standings. Bad luck or bad cars, it doesn't really matter...points standings are all that counts.

PS - Before you Gordon fans beat the heck of me....Look back on my other posts from this season. I have not been a blind follower of the #8 / DEI team. I have given Gordon his due, and critized the DEI unit. I feel I have been fair, and am just returning some of the friendly jabs. grin.gif

HOF, No ill will to you at all man. You can brag about 13th place if you want... We know you DEI guys haven't ever had much real success to be legitimately excited about grin.gif

Seriously, they are both having terrible years. Really none of us should be bragging much about either of their seasons.

You mean point standings are all that count this week if you are in 13th place and ahead of a 4 time champion. If points standings were all that counted you would all be huge JJ fans.

At my house I'm getting my butt whooped, me being the #24 fan, my wife likes #48, and both the kiddeys like the "memenem" car #38.

But alas, its just a race, I didn't cry in my pillow that 24 dnf'ed and the 8 won. I'm actually glad Jr finally won, the suicide watch must have been on high alert.

I hear ya there lawdog. 13th and 15th. I never would have predicted that. With how this season has gone though, I've had to take what I can get. You have to admit, Jr. winning at that type of track was quite a surprise with how they have been doing this season.

With a season like this, you just look for the little positives to be happy about.

I would honestly love to see both the 8 and the 24 make the chase. It'll be tough, but I think it's possible.

Why do you keep harping this issue, IMO Jeff Gordon would not have won the Championship last Year, Jimmy Johnson would have walked away under the old format, he had a huge lead and knowing the system changed and at worst or best they would be 5 or 10 points down/up. They did some tweaking and testing/risk taking with the engines they blew 2 engines in 3 week stretch also they went for a couple of Wins instead of playing it safe knowing it did not matter like the old outdated system, of course they would have played it different under the old boring/flawed "see T Labonte that shoulda been a championship for Gordo" setup.

But any-who It's tough to compare little E to IMO the most successful driver of all time.

I think its safe to say neither will be winning any championships this year I do not believe Gordon or Earnhardt

will even make the chase.

For years I was a fan of who, IMO, was the best driver ever. Then, one fateful day at Daytona he died. I've also been somewhat of a closet Mark Martin fan.

So, I'm used to cheering for winners. #8 fan or #24 fan it's kind of a sucky feeling to be rooting for a team that I don't feel will even be in the running for the championship. Keeping my eye on the 6 car, though.

Having said that.....#8 is ahead of #24 in points so boo boo to you #24 fans. grin.gif

This came from nascar. com. It is the standings if the season was under the old format. As you can see Jeff would have beat Jimmy by 47 points. so it is not non-sense.

3 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. 4869 -173

4 -- Kurt Busch 4795 -247

5 -- Tony Stewart 4701 -341

6 -- Mark Martin 4597 -445

7 -- Jamie McMurray 4597 -445

8 +1 Matt Kenseth 4376 -666

9 -1 Ryan Newman 4361 -681

10 -- Elliott Sadler 4315 -727

11 +1 Bobby Labonte 4277 -765

12 -1 Kasey Kahne* 4274 -768

13 +2 Kevin Harvick 4228 -814

14 -- Dale Jarrett 4214 -828

15 -2 Jeremy Mayfield 4183 -859

17 +4 Greg Biffle 3902 -1140

I guess everyone will debate the Gordo-Earnhardt issue forever. They both have problems wheter it be bad luck or bad cars.Either way they are down in the points and will battle to make the final ten.Gordon is a great driver and Jr one day will also ride the top,now its just that Gordo is time tested ,but still having a less than perfect year. One can never count out bad luck as it usually will take you out of the points.Busch had a great top ten finish and he also hardly broke or dnfed, which will win you the chase. My bet is that Gordo and Jr will make the final ten unless reel bad luck hits them. Then you will really get the debate going again. As always go Jr. and hope he gets the car to drive to the front.

It's not my fault if did not read or obviously comprehend my post.

If you don't understand the difference in the 2 formats or how MANY Teams changed there strategy their is not much I can do for ya.

Yes under the fantasy land minded view if they were using the same formula as last year "even though it's way different" yes my 2nd favorite driver Jeff Gordon would have won the points Championship.

Have great day hope I did not affend anyone. grin.gif

Oh heres a quote from Gordon when asked a few questions about the new points format.

"I have to believe Jimmy would won under the old format he was so strong this year, of course we all knew going in it's a different system so we changed our philosophy on how we prepare for the chase"

PBridge, I'm not sure what world you're living in. It doesn't matter anyway, because Kurt Busch won the championship last year fair and square. I just hope that Jeff Gordon squeaks in the chase by one point and wins the championship this year. But he's gonna have to get his butt in gear for that to happen.

Im not a Gordo fan but dont dislike him either.Jeff has had alot of bad luck and if that monkey doesnt jump off his back in the next race im afraid that he will miss the chase and thats to bad as he makes alot of races better.Go Jr as he still has a little bit of a chance.
