kiefer06
I always see these bass fishermen casting way up to the shore into thick lily pads. And they always seen to catch the big ones in there. How do they cast into the thickest of weeds and not get snaged? Is this a technique or is it a type of lure, and where can i get one? Thanks for the replies! delmuts
you may want to go to the bass forum. there has been alot of talk about what lures to use where, and how including weeds.( deep and shallow)
Corey Bechtold
Also check out the "What's workin now" thread in the Bass forum. There is a lot of good tips in there and some specifics about Bassin' in "the soup".Good Luck,Corey Bechtold
CASTnBLAST
A jig n pig/plastic combo is about the most weedless lure for the thick stuff but is usually pitched or flipped to cover. If you meant they were actually over hand casting did you notice if they were using surface or sub surface lures? kiefer06
They would flip and cast overhand and I think it was a surface lure. What are some good surface lures you would recomend? As far as the jig n pig/plastic combo, I have never heard of it and definetly ever seen one. If you could fill me in on these few things, that would be awesome. Thanks, KIEFER06. Aquaman01
Welcome to the forums! A "jig & pig" or "jig & plastic" is a lead-headed hook with a weedguard of some kind, and a rubber worm of some kind attached to the hook trailing behind. If you're not a lure purist and are willing to toss live-bait, try an Eagle Claw weedless hook with a 1/2 of a fat crawler, weighted with just a couple of glass beads. This combo snakes over milfoil, cabbage and lilypads quite well.
FOOT
Jig w/ a weed guard. BUT don't think the weeds are only for Bass and Northern.I consistenly fish the weeds for Walleye. Tip the jig w/ a 1/2 a crawler and pitch it to openings in the weeds. You'll be surprised how many you'll catch.
EBass
Another lure is a fluke rigged TX style with no weight. jerk, pause, jerk jerk, pause. Fish it slow. It's good when they are sluggish and not hitting top water. No matter what lure is out there, you will pick up weeds from time to time, and yes that slime I take off after every cast. Gets annoying but when that 17" smacks my lure it's all worth it:)
Fisher Dave
I think you are referring to fishing extremely heavy cover/slop.. probably where its hard to see there is even water under there. For the thickest cover.. I think you a looking for a Moss Boss.. they kind of look like a sponn with a rubber skirt trailer. You can cast them things into the woods and you wont get hung up. They are a surface type lure and they do work.Have fun reeling in 20 pounds of weeds with each fish... be sure you have heavy line/equipment when fishing that heavy cover. mrjigger
I second the moss boss. it is a great lure for the extremely heavy cover. i would also recommend a plastic frog. keep your line/rod tip high off the water, otherwise the line has a tendency to get caught under the lily pads. this type of bass fishing can really get your heart pumping. pikerliker
Hey FOOT I had the same idea about walleye's in the weeds, especailly in southern lakes where they relate more to weedlines. Can you get weed guards for regular jigs that are not weedless or do you have to buy them with the weed guards already attatched? ~piker
dogfishHUNTER
use a scum frog. they work good in THICK scum or not. it comes in a popper also
