dwag70
I wish had would have gotten there names... I was out fishing with me 5 yr old son saturday evening.. When we were approached by another boat.. I soon knew it was the CO's After doing the standard checking for everything and listening to my non-stop talking 5 yr old telling all kinds of stories... including telling them that we had not caught anything when we did have fish..(Dad's fault my son tends to yell out to other boats how good we are doing so I have tring to break him of this) They gave him a certificate for free DQ and then deputized him as a Jr CO gave him a badge and ID card... I just wanted to say great jobs and way to leave a postive effect behind.. You were both professional and very friendly ..I think you all are doing a great job.. Thank you for all the hard work !!!! fishlips
Sounds like you had fun and ran into a couple of good CO's....your comment about your 5yr old son talking reminded me of a funny story. I used to live in Mankato many years ago, and a friend told me that the walleyes were going nuts at a local lake (Eagle lake from what I remember). We went over to the local bait store (the Bobber Shop) and bought some fatheads. There were a ton of people in the store as it was a Saturday. The bait dealer was trying to be nice and asked my 5yr old where we were going. My 5yr old excitedly answers at the top of his lungs "Eagle Lake...they're nailing the walleyes on Eagle Lake"I think that brought more than a few boats over there that day, but in hindsight, it was pretty funny. Dave B
Are you sure the CO was just a desperate fisherman looking to infiltrate your son's safeguards to gather info?
Dave
I think it's great to see a positive report and a thank you about CO's, viewable by the public. It's more common to see people complaining and not giving them some credit.
CorynTracySellHomes
Was it the CO (Marty Book) or the Chisago County Sherrif? Either way they are "Top Notch" Marty is a no non-sense doesn't matter who you are game warden, if you are breaking the law you will get a ticket! He is one of the most professional CO's out there! If it was the Chisago County Sherrif, I have just met the new water patrol deputy once at one of the Lake Association meetings, he is a great guy that puts the safety of kids as number 1 priority. THey have teamed up with DQ to give kids gift certificates if they have there life jackets on, which I think is a GREAT program if you have ever had to deal with trying to keep a lifejacket on a little one that doesn't want it on!! Glad to hear you had a good experience! If you can remember if it was the sheriff, or indeed the CO I will pass on your compliments!!Cory Frantzick
dwag70
The wife actually asked that question of him.. That got a laugh out of everyone. She said are you sure you are not trying to steal our spot.... It was the CO's for Pine county. I agree That the good encounters need to be out there too... And these two a man and a woman team.. Were great..
kslipsinker
I sell a lot of licenses at the Gander bait store where I work. I tell customers to always give the CO's the respect that they are due. They are doing a difficult job, and usually will not hassle you if you are not doing anything wrong. I have had many experiences with numerous CO's, and wouldn't have one bad thing to say about any of them.
fiskyknut
The CO's have been doing this on LOTW this year too. Told the kid it was cause he was wearing his lifejacket while in the boat. They had a whopping stack of the cards too, but I did'nt get one!Coasties were out there yesterday checking folks but I heard they don't have the gift cards.fiskyknut

Neiko
We ran into 2 CO's in Nemadji last year bear hunting and they were really nice. I believe it was Kathy Larson and Scott Staples. It was hotter then hell so I had my fly down and forgot to zip it up. Didn't realize I was talking to her the whole time with it down.LOL Got to say she was pretty good looking and wouldn't mind getting busted by her. They corrected my buddy on transporting a firearm who was from IL. It was good to see them checking everyone and am looking forward running into her again. Sorry Scott nothing personal. Captain B.R.K
It's good to see good things being said about the state's CO's! We have to remember they do put up with a lot of garbage from fishermen, hunters, boaters, yada yada yada. I know some people that can't stand em' but I think it has to do more because those "bandits" are being looked at all the time from somone doing a job of keeping our resources plentiful for the present and future outdoors people! Riverratpete
It's the old story ya know...If you have nothing to hide, you got nothing to worry about. Been my experience most people carping about CO's/Cops.,etc normally are trying to take attention away from themselves because they know they screwed up. Great to hear of the positive encounters. FOOT
I've never had a bad experience with a CO yet. They all have been professional and freindly, just doing their jobs, protecting our wildlife.I agree the ones who carp about CO's or Cops tend to be the ones with something to hide. One of the best I've ever known was here in Rochester, Jack Heather, a true gentleman and concerned outdoorsman. matthothand
That Marty Book is definately a top notch guy. I grew up in Chisago County. I doubt it was Brad Schultz though. I haven't heard many positive remarks about him and the one time I was checked by him and he almost cited me a ticket while ice fishing. I walked with him back to my vehicle and turned to the exact page which clearly specified the regulation in question and politely corrected him. He wasn't happy that he had just been corrected and could not issue a citation to me since I was in complete compliance with the regulations that he had misinterpreted. I'm not saying he is a bad man or is a bad representative to the DNR...I am just contributing my two cents on a post by Dietz. I've only met him once. fishnhooks
I grew up knowing Marty Book. Not the way you think, but my dad was a snowmobile instructor and was friends with him. He is definetly a top notch person. Even though he knew me from being a young lad, he found me without my license on hand while ice fishing, he still issued me a ticket. I just had to prove that I have a license and I have nothing against him from doing that. I thought he is doing his job the way he is suppose to. I agree, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about."hooks"
