Rock and No Roll

Eh..it's about time Eh.

GM has got in the new Scenic Tackle line of No-Rolls in 1 oz up to 5 oz. Just in time for the catfishing season to really take off and rock.

The Fargo Gander Mtn store has them in now and you can look for them at other GM's now or very soon. If they do not have them in yet bug the fishing dept guys to get on the ball and get them in.

Stock up and get ready to Rock and No-Roll some sumo's.

I wish the Gander here had any type of cat gear.. the only thing they have is a couple combo's.. no heavy terminal tackle at all.. the only hooks they have that will stand up in a pinch is plastic worm hooks..

I talked to an older gentalman in the fishing department last time I was in, and he said there was just a meeting discussing what they would be carrying.. and it sounds like my location will not carry cat gear... the employee said it was *all corporate and they go by the numbers*..

This is in no way an attack on Gander Mountain, but it brought a frown upon my face considering there is nothing in the twin city area to properly host the large number of serious catfishermen.. river rats to executives are fishing cats these days for good reason.

I would recommend everyone checking into their local location.. if someone observes the heavy terminal tackle coming out anywhere around the metro.. please clue me in.

The Boomington Gander will not have it as far as I last knew.

Sportsmans Warehouse in Coon Rapids had a good selection of hooks up to size 10-0. They had carried sinkers up to 5 oz. in the past years but they were selling out of the popular sizes often. You might want to give them a try. Hope this helps.

Sportsman's Warehouse had ALMOST everything I was looking for.

-Gamakatsu Octopus Circle Hooks in sizes up to 4/0 (might have been 5/0)

-Bank sinkers, Pyramid sinkers, donut shaped river sinkers up to 3 or 4 oz. They didn't have any No-Rolls. I believe we can order No-Rolls straight from Jeff at Scenic Tackle.

The Ganders do have a good selection of dough baits & stink baits. confused.gifconfused.gif I'm more of a cut bait guy.

A couple of yrs ago I got tired of always having to search for no-roll sinkers and then the cost was, in my opinion out of line. I went and purchased a Do-it-mould in the 1 to 3 oz and this year I purchased the 6 & 8oz mould. I really don't need the 8 oz but the 6 oz will be used early in the season and sturgeon fishing.

Hooks, well I purchase them by the box (1,000 per) and then never really have to go searching. A box last about 2 to 3 yrs and is alot cheaper this way.

I agree sporting goods stores do NOT seem to cater to cat fishermen. There usually is alot of gear for bass or trout but cats are for some reason forgot about. I make a point of bring it up every time I go in the stores and even my wife has mentioned it to them when she is searching for X-Mas etc things.

For folks visiting or heading north thru Grand Forks/EGF the Scheels and the Cabelas cater too the Catfisherman pretty well with a pretty good selection of big size hooks and weights of various types and what nots. It's a Catfishhin' town.

Last year Gander in Maple Grove had Mustad Octopus up to 7/0. No big lead - still had to order that.

I think DARK30 is working on a home-cast no roll using a washtub for a mold and casting the line hole with 3/4" pvc. grin.gif

If your local GM does not have the No-Rolls..ask them to get them in. They can get them now through Scenic Tackle if they know you wish them too.

Same-same with rods, reels, hooks and such...bug them and they will order them in. Some show up faster then others but demand dictates what new stuff will get requested so Nag Away..Eh.

I just recieved the price list on Scenic Tackles No Rolls and they are a bargain. They match or beat other suppliers.

In addition they are better quality sinkers.

No slag on the edges and the holes are oversized and clean.

If I don't see them in my local Gander Mountain, I'll be ordering mine from Scenic Tackle from here on out.

Hastings outdoors down off 61 in hastings got some no rolls this year finally. They have 1-3 oz now and if he gets a few request for heavier Im sure they will get them. I think they were 50-75 cents apiece.

I couldn't agree more Ed.

I also have been frustrated with the lack of Cat oriented gear in the metro. My buddy talked to Tom at the Bloomington Gander, and he said it was no problem getting a shipment of (in this case) No-Rolls from Scenic Tackle. The Gander in Fargo stocks more, and because the line item is in the corporate database he can order them from up nort anytime.

Still, it would be nice to have more in stock items down in the metro on a regular basis.

Ya..they sell well in any area with River Rats. They reduce lost tackle and fatten up the wallet Eh.

TIP....Make your leeders 5-10# less in strength then your main cat line. You will loose less tackle and land more fish. You only loose the leeder that way when hung hard. The No-Rolls seldom get hung to the point you need to bust them off........that is as long as your not in large rock or granite...then...everything is terminal.

Eh...that is what us Red River Guides use more hooks up I guess..we always keep them hooks good & sharp that way too. wink.gif Buy quality hooks (Gamakatsu) wink.gif and buy in bulk if you can.

Katoguy: Eddy has it quite right. Use a slightly lighter weight of line on your leader, that way U don't loose so much terminal tackle. Most times the only thing U loose is the hook and that is why we purchase them in the large quantities (1000 per). We do loose alot of sinkers but a lot less by using this method.

The biggest reason we loose sinkers is the clients get restless and start to reel in and drag the sinker on the bottom and get snagged up. If U can convince them to just leave it snagged a kitties USUALLY picks up the bait and takes it out but it is hard to convince them that. Most times a snag is a sure way of hooking up but patience is needed. When U are snagged your bait is NOT swinging widely on the bottom. It stays in ONE place and the kitties can find it.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
