crank baits

Shadraps are the basic standard in walleye crankbaits. It is also nice to have a variety, a good mix of Thundersticks, Rogues, Rip Sticks and floating Rapalas are always nice to have for those days that the fish just can't make up there minds what they want to eat.

The clearance bins in sporting goods stores are a good way to pick up a few not so popular baits that have saved the day quite a few times.

I'll second what everyone else said and add my vote for a Glass Shad Rap and/or Glass husky jerk.

Reef Runner makes an excellent line of baits but there is some work involved in keeping them tuned. Sometimes when I get ready to buy a few baits I like to see what the main forage is in the lake(s) I'm going to, this is especially true when I go try a new lake. This gives you an idea of what the fish see naturally and most DNR lake maps have a little info about forage base. I then buy baits to mimic the fish food that's in the lake or I just buy a few old reliables. I have confidence in #7 & #9 Perch and blue/chrome Shad Raps. A couple Husky Jerks in the same colors and some Fire tiger are my go to colors. Yours may end up being Crawdad and Clown but that's fishing.

Just remember, when it comes fishing tackle, 'Its better to have and not want than to want and not have!!'

You can't go wrong with

LONG A BOMBERS!!! grin.gif

make sure you get the long-a's though, they have more wobble and rattle than the shorter one's. Lon a-s are also very productive in the night.

Tonight I was digging in the FleetFarm discount bins, and I bought some FireGlo cranks. I thought that they would be worth a shot for night fishing. Have any of you guys tried these? I'll let you know how I do as I may be going to Big Stone this weekend.

Really depends on the way you fish do you fish mainly daylight or at night deep or shallow? I prefer wally divers during the day and shallow running shads at night. Husky Jerks are a bit lost in time but can at times be murder on walleyes.
