0 andy j
Sounds like the shaft is bent, or maybe just needs to be tightened up, mine loosens up from time to time. I would contact Strikemaster, i have never had any problems with mine but I have heard that they have good customer service. Good Luck
0 Gissert
Does your auger still cut ok? My Strikemaster does the same thing, but cuts well. Some just wobble like that. Annoying, perhaps, but no problem really. See if you can wobble the auger bit where it attaches to the gearbox shaft. That is where the end play is on my unit. If it does not cut correctly, your shaft or the flutes where the blades are attached might be bent. Opening old holes and standing the auger in a partially drilled hole can mess up auger shafts. 0 loosegoose
Sounds like a bent shaft or a bearing has gone out.
0 poutpro
The thing is that it will wobble, but then it will start cutting straight and drill very good, then it will start to wobble again. I cant make sense of it. If it was a bent shaft, I dont think it would ever stop wobbling. Any suggestions?
0 Gissert
That's a head scratcher. Can you feel your gearbox slipping?I suggest you call Strikemaster and get their input. They are very good about helping out with problems such as this.
0 Phred52
Poutpro, One way to tell if the shaft is bent, would be to remove the drill from the powerhead and roll it on a flat surface where you can have the blades hanging over the edge. While you roll it on this surface, pay close attention to the collar where it mounts to the powerhead. If the collar wobbles (up/down,left/right), It's bent. 0 poutpro
I dont think it is bent because it sometimes does not wobble, and i dont know how it would stop wobbling if it was bent. But i dont know I may need to try it just to for sure rule that out.
0 Surface Tension
Theres usually a small amount of play between the collar and the shaft. That play gets magnified by the length of the auger shaft. If it cuts good I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. You could also have a very slight bend in the shaft and the length of the shaft multiplies the wobble. Again if it cuts good why mess with it. Your only alternative is to replace the drill if its bent, by why if its cutting good.
0 poutpro
It doesnt cut good when it wobbles. I have to put a lot of pressure on it when it is wobbling for it to cut.
0 Captain B.R.K
How old is this auger of yours? I get a bit of a wobble, but not as bad as you are mentioning on yours. Like Surface Tension stated, there is a little play (very little) on the power augers. I have the same auger as you. If you are coming to the Cool Cats event Saturday, bring it along and we could look at it!!
0 poutpro
Im not really familiar with the area. Where is the cool cats going to be at? What time? Thanks. The auger has just started doing this as of lately. In the past it has always cut great, usually much better than my fishing buddy's jiffy. I'll have to see if i can make the cool cats. Thanks for the info.
