Is there anyone that hunts coyotes in here? I gotted started this year and have only shot 1. I really dont know what im doing. I do have a Johny Stewart Ecaller. What are the best times to go out? What tactics should I use?

I got my first one Friday so I don't have much experience. I took the snowshoes out and went back to a deer stand on the property and blew a rabbit call for 20 min and waited. Called again and about 10 minutes later I saw him coming from down wind. I was able to get the gun around and take him with one shot. It was a small male but his coat was nice.

The one i shot was a big male, but it was full of mange on the back end. It's tail was like a rats, no hair on it at all. I would like to get a few that i could skin and tan, but i havent been able to locate them really.

To tell you the truth. I am scared of the dark. I have heard of people who have got attacked by these little dogs. But in these parts ppl have seen bob cats, mountain lions, and T wolves. I wouldnt be caught out in the woods with these hungrary fellas.

I've been out a couple times, but I think there's been too much pressure around here. I have gotten a couple to respond to my calls, but nothing comes into range. Found a couple areas where there are litterally thousands of 'yote tracks. Tried those this past weekend, but the timing wasn't right. Gonna have to get out of bed early in the a.m. to get them.

I've heard many coyotes howling when deer hunting orwell south of Fergus Falls, but have been unable to get them to call in with my Ecaller. I dont know if im doing it at the right time or they just arent callable, or im calling wrong.

I have yotes living near my property as I have heard them at night yelping. This weekend a friend and I are going to see if we can take them out. grin.gif

I've never hunted them before, but my friend does. Should be fun.

Tell ya what, the main thing to remember with coyote hunting is patience. They say that the average caller will call 1 coyote in every 8 stands. Coyotes are like muskies, you might work all day for one opportunity.

We hunt coyotes in a group. Kinda like party hunting deer. Many times we'll spread out and walk a section. Other times we'll spot them, then send in the troops. It works well when you have snow.
