tweeder
I was wondering if anyone could comment on their GPS units as I am in the market for one. I used the "search" area and didn't find much. Thanks in advance.
andy j
I would stick with a lowrance, Garmin, or Magellen, Lots of different ones, I don't know where to start, what are you going to be using it for?
hanson
I have a relatively cheap Garmin Etrex. It does the job for me. But there are many 'niceties' I would like to have in a new unit. Like Andy said, you may have to give us a little more info such as your budget and what you expect the unit to do.
Predator
I have the Magellan Sportrak Pro and I like it. I think it is pretty simple to use and does everything I need it to and thensome.
Dennis Steele
I bought a Gamin 76s and its pretty cool. You download Lakemaster Lake Maps right on to the GPS screen. You could almost leave the sonar home! I am still learning how to run it but so far I am immpressed.
M.T. Bucket
Did you find these threads? To GPS or not to GPS? Looking at GPS units...All input is appreciated
tweeder
M.T. I did not see those threads thanks, maybe my search was to vague. I have been looking at the sportrack and the 76s. I would say budget is in the . Primarily using it to mark fishing spots and for hunting. I seem to get lost all the time I didn't know you could download the lakemaps right on it. I have a lot of learning to do. thanks again.

Cliff Wagenbach
If you are looking for a hand held unit I reccomend the Lawrance i-finder. It is reasonably priced, easy to use,and also takes Lake Master MMC chips.Cliff
hanson
My GPS is as simple as it gets. I spent all my money on other fishing toys so the GPS got the short end of the deal.Mine doesn't have a built in map. While not needed, I would sure like to have it.Being able to download the Lakemaster maps to the GPS is the feature I would like the most. Like Dennis said about the 76, I've been eyeing up the Garmin Map76c for next winter already. Its a bigger, color screen than my Etrex. And you can get lake map contours right on to your handheld GPS. How sweet is that.I've learned to work with what I got and it does get me back to fishing spots very effectively. It also helps me get off the lake in a snowstorm.
Ryan Berger
Dennis Steele, I have the Garmin 76cs, could you explain to me how to download the maps to the gps,, I have no idea...thank you so much,,
minndonn
I have both a Garmin 12 and a garmin72. What I miss on the 72 is no mapping. I hope to upgrade to map in the future. If you can afford a mapping I would do so. Actually in some ways I like the 12 as it is easier to operate and the track line is thicker and easier to read with bad eyes (getting old) and bright out. cyberamish
I have both the Sporttrack Pro and a Garmin eTrex. The eTrex I like for hunting as it is small and will accept downloaded waypoints from the pc. The SportTrack I use on the boat and have also bought the Blue Nav CD. With that I can download contour maps of some of the larger lakes in MN (mostly I use it for Superior). My bro-in-law has the 76c and it is a VERY nice unit. A little big but crammed with features. blue_healer_guy
I also have the Garmin 12 and for what I use it for, it's perfect. Relatively inexpensive, around $125.
dockehr
Chris, if you're serious about purchasing the GPSMAP 76c and the Garmin Minnesota Lakemaster software, drop me a line. I have a virtually new (used twice) Garmin GPSMap 76cs and a unopened software disk.dockehrDr. Roland E. Kehr, Jr.[email protected]
Jeremy airjer W
I've been using the garmin 12xl and been very happy. A gps and lakemaster software are a deadly weapon for finding the spots you want to fish. I'm am looking at purchasing a garmin 76 for the added benifit of having the countours right on the screen. HOW AWSOME IS THAT! Better hurry I might be e-mailing dockehr myself!

I'm not sure if I can put lakemaster maps off there but I can use it for city maps and stuff for sure.
Captain B.R.K
Quote: Dennis Steele, I have the Garmin 76cs, could you explain to me how to download the maps to the gps,, I have no idea... thank you so much,, You'll want to go to their HSOforum and make sure that the software available is compatible to one of the NEWEST GPS is out there. If it is, the easiest way to describe uploading into your GPS......plug in the data cord that comes with the unit (assuming your unit came with one of these) into the PC. Install your sofware to the PC. Plug the data cord into the GPS and start uploading maps-lake info. onto the GPS. EASY as 1-2-
