hanson
It happens... Hope you were able to take something away from the experience to learn from. Party of 3 got 4 crappies on Upper Red this weekend. Talk about getting schooled!! I'm not ready to sell the farm but close.
Deitz Dittrich
Cooter-here is the thing... keep a journal of your fishing. Believe it or not, you can learn more from your days that you have a bad day fishing than you can from your days that you have a good day fishing. The hole hind sight is 20/20 vision really pays off, in the long run.. learn from your mistakes..I have another article comming out soon.. Rick already has it, and will post it when its time. I was up on the Red River and lost my biggest walleye to date, I also lost 5 other fish that day... I was just not on my game. This article is about what I learned, and what I can do to not have this happen again. Learn from what happened to you, and move on! Make every trip a learning trip! Northlander
Dietz sounds like a file and some needle nose to bend those hooks out a bit was in order. Doesnt that make you sick though. efgh
DON:T< DON:T< DON:T sell that ice fishing equipment, you will never feel right again, like another poster says, the worst day of fishing is better than the best day at work, there is always something to do on the ice if you can not find fish, enjoy nature, talk to other guys on the ice and just enjoy the day. fishnhooks
Sell, your Ice gear??? WOW, that sounds serious! I have had many bad days fishing this year and come home disgusted, but I keep thinking "I'll bet tomorrow I'll really catch them" and then might come home disgusted again. Seems like each time is different, sometimes I am with friends, sometimes if the fish are not biting it gives me time to B.S.with others on the lake or play fetch with the dog and other times it is just nice to be alone for a while. Not always, but sometimes I think there is more to fishing than catching fish. Sometimes it is not easily remembered though. Keep your gear for next year. Hey that kind-of rhymes "hooks"
mltjanderson
What happened that could make you or any man sell and type of outdoor gear?
schweady
Hang in there... It reminds me of one of my favorite sayings out of my father-in-law after a 'lousy' day of fishing (far more than once): "Tomorrow, I'm having an auction and selling the whole lot!" Of course, tomorrow would come and we were back in the boat. Sure enough, we'd catch a few and he'd back off a notch to another - less radical - stand-by, like: "No wonder we aren't catchin'... leeches too small, minnows too big." We call 'em "Arvin-isms" and fishing's not the same without a few sprinkled in.
Captain B.R.K
You think you've had a bad year. I went up to Canada for 4 days and spent like $300 and only caught 3 fish total. I watched a guy in my party pull up like 8 fish in one hole!My luck has run bad this year, but I'm not ready to stick a fork in it yet.Keep your head up. Another year learned is like reading another chapter in a endless chapter of FISHNG 101 book!
1lkstage
Out of all the gear to sell, the AUGEER should be the last. If you don't use it but once a year, think of the last person YOU watched dilling a hole by hand thru 20+ inches of ice!! LOL!! Even if not used, you will need a hole sometime!! Cooter
I feel much better now, thanks for all the support! Hitting LOW on Thurs. Ready to eat some fresh fish. If I don't catch any there though, there will be a serious ice fishing gear sale ! Could always use the proceeds for more musky lures, or a drop away rest, or a new gun, or an aqua view, or ......you get the picture.
hunt4food
Hanson, I know the feeling on Red last weekend. Our party of 3 only caught one small Walleye and we drove up there early Sunday in the snowstorm. I came home last night with my tail between my legs too! fisherking01
We've all been there! Last March fishing a small lake. 7:00 am got stuck going out, 8:00 am got out. 11:00 am lost at least 10 nice crappies, none iced. broke 3 lines on pike, none iced. found i had no tackle with, forgot it, found couple hooks in pickup, by 11:30 both lost to pike, Feeling bummed, left the lake at 11:30. Drove about 6 miles on township road in middle of nowhere to small cafe. Noticed my end gate was down and Auger was gone. Turned around and back tracked four miles to where it had fallen out, Could see the marks in gravel and footprints where the person picked it up. Spent afternoon checking farmers to see if they had picked it up. Nothing. Used a hand auger until the ice got 12 inches thick and bought a new one, after all of that, I really appreciate the good days!
