VIKES SOLD !!!! $625 MILLION $$$$$$$$$

Great news for us!! However, the owners now will have to investigate Fowler's liquidity to see if he has $$$ he says he does and take a vote. So one last hurdle. Remember Clancy? If this happens, do you think Tice is worried about his job? Or will it be a lameduck year for him and the coaching staff? I think most of the front office people are good to retain. But, I think the player personnel and scouting area needs to improve.

I gotta think that Tice will be around for at least 1 more year. His contract runs through next year and I think Fowler would at least give Tice the 1 year to prove himself to new ownership, plus he'd be saving a little money. Plus it still could be 2 months before the sale is finalized. Hopefully they will spend the money they have under the cap and get a real defense out on the field. If they do and Tice has a good year, I think he will stay. If Tice has another year like the past 2, I think he will be gone after next year.

AMEN TO THAT! You don't need to trade your best player to build a defense when you are 20,000,000+ under the salary cap!!! Spend some money and sign some players! By the way, do you guys realized Red is making almost $400,000,000 selling this team. He bought them for like 240 and sells them for 637. Poor guy...

He's a business man...that's all this was for him. Suffice it to say, his investment had a decent return... grin.gif

Maybe Red knows something that has not been published and that is why he told Taylor to be ready to make a bid. Fowler still needs aproval, and with a net worth of $400m, it just doesnt seem he has the resourses to run the team after he buys it. The last thing the league wants to see is a team going in the red.

I think McCombs is doing the PC thing and letting the league decide on his ability instead of turning the offer down himself if there is a lurking problem.

I'd love to see Fowler get the team. He's an ex-player, which could also be bad in a way, but he's not forgien to the game and more than likely, like any athlete, still has that competitive fire burning, which this team so desperately needs in an owner.

I'm skeptical of an out of state owner doing everything to keep the team here. Fowler is definitely saying all the right things.

I'm going to give him the benefit of any doubt and get a little excited here. I think he's a guy who just wants to own a football team. I think some owners have an investment and some like to football. I'd like to see Fowler be an owner like Arthur Blank in Atlanta. Kind of a hands on guy, but not like a Jerry Jones or an Al Davis type.

My thought is that they already have a pretty good idea how the approval process is going to go. I don't think they'd go through all of this if they weren't pretty sure it would hold water. Yes, I too remember Tom Clancy and the T'Wolves move to New Orleans and all that, but I think that dump is part of the reason this is going to go through. I also think that the NFL might run into racism issues if it doesn't go through (Even if they aren't warranted). There has been a lot of talk about Mr. Fowler's race, and I think it's a bit overblown. I think he just wants to be thought of as a regular owner, and I'm excited to hear what he's got planned.

The thing I really like is the fact that he plans on moving here and living here year-round. That would be a huge plus as far as public relations goes.

I also believe the stadium will be built in Blaine within 5 years. The city council wants that revenue and noteriety badly and the group from New York in with Fowler is in it for that development.

I think you are right that Anoka county site is what's going to drive this. I bet some of his unknown partners are the guys who own all the developable land up in that area and they have the whole thing planned out. They will make a killing on that if its what's really going on... I'm thinking some "connected" money from the East Coast is involved here.

Not to be pessimistic, but.... This thing COULD fall through and we may still see Glen Taylor as the owner of the vikings.... I'm just not sold yet that the NFL is going to approve this deal. They say it will take 3-10 weeks for the NFL to determine if the numbers all work out.... obviously Red wants them to and thats why he announced the sale... the true test is getting it by the NFL people!

P.S. I didn't realize what a wad McCombs really was until recently... the guy really is a wierd dude.

He is listed nowhere in the all time roster for the Browns.

Is this the team that he stated he played a season for?

The first post mentioned Denny Hecker. Is he involved with this or what? I think its good that the Vikes are sold and are said to be staying in MN and probably a new stadium. I saw the New York Times today and there were 3 big articles in there about MN teams. The Santana signing, the Twolves sucking it up, and now the new Vikes owner. Pretty impressive!

I'm skeptical, of course he's gonna say he'll keep the team here. When the lease runs out on the Metrodome the NFL will step in and if no stadium by then, it's off to L.A.

How can a guy pay another $20 million to get closer to the cap when he spends 200 million more than what he's worth to buy the team? I'd like to see Glen Taylor buy it. He can get a stadium bill passed. Fowler will just Fowl it up.

FOWL IT UP ? HES THE ONLY ONE WHO REALLY WANTS TO KEEP THE VIKES IN MINNESOTA , AND YES HE HAS ENOUGH FINACIAL BACKING (DENNY HECKER ?) IS REALLY ALL HE NEEDS , BUT I HEAR HE HAS A FEW GOOD BACKERS IN THIS... THE WORST SCENARIO I THINK IS GLEN TAYLOR BUYING IT... HES GOT ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH !!!!!!

I dont care what Fowler says about keeping the team here, even if he is planning on moving the team, he's not going to say anything about it now. But dont get me wrong, I'm not saying he will move the team, I'm saying if the NFL wants the Vikes to go to LA because they are willing to build a new stadium, who do you think will win, Fowler or the NFL? Taylor can get a stadium built before the lease runs out on the Dome, I dont know about Fowler.

is it really about a new stadium ? i thought it was about a championship for minnesota , i could care less about a new stadium , i dont see nothing wrong with the one we got . and really we need to put a championship team together, dont you think that would constitute a new stadium a lil more ..jus my opinion!
