Strike Master - Laser

Anyone have problems cutting holes with these? It take me at least 5 minutes to cut a 10" hole and 2-3 minutes to cut a 6" hole. It bogs down if you put a little pressure on it, but it barely cuts by itself. I have tried almost everything with it. New spark plug, cleaned carb, check lines. Put new blades on the 10" and the 6" is new. Any input on what to do. I am almost ready to say F@%# it and get a new Auger.

I would take your auger to the factory (Big Lake) and let them take a look at it. They are very helpful and would fix it while you wait. I took mine there once and I haven't had an issue with it since that time.

This year I purchased the Strike Master Laser Xpress, and the first few times that I used it I noticed that it bogged down alot. After I cut about 50+ holes I've noticed a drast improvement in cutting speed, and its not bogging down nearly as much. I also try to keep the ice build-up on the blades to a minimum, since that greatly affects the cutting ability.

I have that auger in an 8 inch and haven't had any problms with it yet. I do notice it runs a lot better if you let it warm up for a minute or two before you start drilling holes. So far so good though with the engine for me. But the main reason I bought a Strikemaster is because of the many positive reports of good service I have heard on them so I would just call them and see what they can do or recommend for you...good luick

I've owned 8" Lazer since December 1997, the only thing I did was replace the auger shaft bolt and I had to re-calibrate the auger head because I re-drilled too many holes in a perm fishhouse. 1 set of blades, originals lasted 6 years. I can't complain...

I have a Strikemaster Laser 3hp 8" cut. I don't have to much trouble with they way it runs. Other than it really needs to warm up first. Before cutting.

I've had it for 8 years now always starts and always runs.

But, this weekend I was re-opening holes in the fish house and on about the sixth hole the thing starts dancing around like a Mexican jumping bean. I had to keep pushing down on it just to get it to cut. It took forever just to cut a little ways down.

So I took it outside and tried it on new ice and the same thing. It realy jumps around. Hard to get it to cut.

I put new blades on it last year and only cut maybe 50-60 holes with it since. What could it be? I have heard about the ice build up thing but it didn't seem like it had any build up on it.

Anybody else?

you may have a bent auger shaft. Mine is bent somewhere. I learned the hard way not to store it leaning on the wall. Mine danced just a little bit but would not cut without a lot of pressure. I tried new blades but that only helped a little. I am going to have the shaft checked by stikemaster after the season. I ended up spending $125 for a new shaft. One nice thing is, the new one has the point in the center. Hope you get it figured out.

You need to let the engine warm up for 2-3 minutes before you start cutting your holes. Dietz even said that the new Nils Master Auger needed a bit of a warm up before it was ready to cut!

As cold as it can be holding onto a running auger, give it a whirl.

I own a strikemaster lazer and have my days with it. But that is only when the weather is nasty cold.

I had a Strike Master Lazer and it wouldn't cut ice. Sent an e-mail to the company and they replied that maybe I should use an 8" instead of the 10", thinking I might be too small to use the "big" rig. Told them I could probably lift that salesman over my head! Took that lazer back to Fleet where I bought it. Later bought a 10" Jiffy Legend and love it. Have to add this: was out on a local lake two weekends ago and a fella came walking across the lake towards me. Send my partner on the snowmobile to find out what was the problem. He asked if he could borrow my auger as his Strike Master lazer wasn't working and he needed about 10 holes cut. Of course I was glad to have my ole Jiffy help. Go Jiffy.

I'll take my Lazer over your Jiffy any day. Not to say Jiffy isn't a good auger, but my 8" lazer is the most reliable, fastest cutting auger I have seen and I beat the h!ll out of it!

I have an xpress 8" and just got a electra 8" and all I can say about the electra is TOOOOOO SWEET! grin.gif quiet, just about as fast as the gas and the shavings don't fly all over. Also you don't feel rushed to punch you holes inside the house.

I had a magnum back in 1983 ran great,i did put a 8" auger on it about 10 years ago,10" just to big. But i loved it light weight easily carry it around with one hand. I do have the new lazer mag that my buddy gave to me he bought 2 years ago. He said it never ran right from the start. I brought it in for a tune up and it's been running great since. One thing i've noticed is i don't think any of the new ones run as good as the older ones did. I just couldn't see these new ones lasting 30 years. My opinion, maybe its the gas.
