Now what- Wrong handed Curado

I thought I would try out a left hand retrieve Shimano Curado 201B5, but I just can't seem to get used to it. Now I have a brand new condition Curado that has never seen water. Is there anybody out there that has a right handed retrieve Curado that wants to use a left handed retrieve that would want to trade? I thought I would go real versatile this summer and do both left and right hand retrieve baitcasting, but I just don't see that happening.

Dont know what to tell you... You could try selling it on hsolist or here in the for sale forum.. It sounds as though you havn't really tried it yet on the water.. maybe it wont be a s bad as you thought. Myself, I tried it a few years back as well... didn't work for me either...

I was really tempted this last weekend to buy a left handed baitcaster at Galyans. As many may already know, they cleared out pretty much everything and they had a Shimano Chronograph left handed baitcaster clearanced out for basically 75% off, brand new in box. But I still couldn't get myself to buy it. It just didn't feel right and couldn't rationalize even the few bucks for it if I wouldn't use it. Doubt it's still there to buy because it's a great deal, but everyone I've heard of that buys a left handed model ends up getting rid of it.

Left handed reels are very good for flipping and pitching. As most right handed people like to hold the rod while casting with thier right hand. This leaves left hand for working the reel.. For flipping, there is not a whole lot of reeling involved as its pretty short line. I myself ended up teaching myself how to flip left handed so that I could still reel with my right hand... NOW, on spinning rods and reels I reel with my left hand.. GO FIGGURE, I AM MESSED UP!!!

I am left handed for everything and have been using left-handed spinning reels all my life. I have always used right-handed baitcaster because that's what my dad used. I thought maybe a left handed will even better for me, but when I hold it and cast it I feel like my rod hand is more important on a baitcaster. I don't know how you right-handers do it, reeling with your right hands. I don't have the reciept so I am not going to return it. I might try hsolist, but if there is anybody out there that would like to trade straight up, that would be ideal. I have two other right handed Curados that I love, so lesson learned, stick with what works.

I am the same way as well, reel a spinning reel with my left hand and a baitcaster with my right. You'd think you would adapt and just be the same on both, but it just doesn't seem comfortable to me. I suppose i should just stick with whats workin.

4 more months!! this winter needs to hurry up, can't wait to get back on the water in pursuit of some bigguns.

Bushwacker, I am interested in your left handed curado. Thats all I use nowdays. I'm surprised more right handed flippers don't make the switch. Ever miss a fish because you were switching hands on the rod? If I make 500 flips (conservative estimate)per day, not having to switch hands that many times saves a lot of extra movement and gives me more oppurtunities to set the hook. I don't have any right handed reels to trade but if your looking to sell, I may be able to help you out.

I did the same thing last winter. I got a left handed curado and tried it once on a trip to Bama. It was the weirdest thing trying to reel it in. I was basically holding the handle still and moving the whole rod around it! cool.gif I sold it on FM for $100 to Mr Clean. You can see if he wants another.

Superduty,

Email me at mtrierwe @ yahoo.com and maybe we can work something out. I am in the same boat as you as far as flipping with my dominant hand. Except I am left-handed. So just a flip and a reel, no transfering over. I was thinking maybe I should try a left handed reel for that reason, because all the righties do it the opposite, maybe that feels better, but it is the craziest thing that I can't get used to it at all even flipping in my basement.

Gander Mountain had a bunch of left-handed Curado's for sale. I played with it and just didn't feel natural. I still might get one but then I'd have to get another rod which I don't have the money for.

Flipping, Pitching, casting I am right handed and really like a left handed baitcasting reel. I have a curado and caluctta left handed reels and I love them. It's just what you get use to. I beleive not having to change hands make you more efficient espically during tournaments.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
