Also had a friend that fished Waubay out of Grenville. Fished in the big pack of houses straight east of that access in 24' of water. Didn't do anything until noon on Saturday, and then they turned on. Three filled out in an hour.

Fished both Fri and Sat filled out both days. The hard part was'nt catching the fish it was keeping the house from blowing away. We fished by Grenville to but were in deeper water the other thing was we tried to stay away from the crowds and that seemed to make a difference for us.

Just got back. Fished the refuge all morning. Not a fish to show for the 200+ holes I cut. mad.gif

We jumped around for about an hour out of Grenville away from the houses.

Drove down to Reetz for the evening bite to try for a piggie, had one on and lost it.

Heading back up that way later in the week. I can't let Waubay get the best of me twice!

I just moved to Wheaton this winter and was wondering where you guys would suggest fishing panfish and perch? I have always preferred smaller lakes. I was also wondering if I need to buy a special licence for the Sisseton Res.? Thanks for the help.

Anybody else fishing Waubay experience a "light bite". I went on Friday and had to really work the bait to get them to bite. and they were not biting very hard once you did finally get them to bite.

Yeah Fang, had the same thing happen to Me and my Dad on friday, but we did get our limit though, a very tough bite. We also went back on Sunday and couldn't find a perch anywhere, we ended up catching our walleye's though but no perch. We fished the refuge and the southwest side of the lake and nothing around!! confused.gif

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD FISHING!!!

Biker, I was out Fri and Sat both days filled out with a very lite bite. There were times I would mark 2 or 3 fish on my LX-3 and everything I would try wouldnt make them bite. The thing that worked the best was when the fish would come in on the locator wiggle your jig and very slowly raise your rod and watch the tip. One of my rods had a spring bobber on it and sometimes the perch would only pull it down 1/8 to 1/4 in and set the hook. Watching the tip or should I say stairing at the tip is the key.

Hey poor, we used genz worms and buckshot rattle spoons, it seemed to be the more aggressive fish of the school that would bite. But every now and then you would get the aggressive schools to come through. Caught our eye's also and they would just come in and smack the jig, so it really confused us why the perch were so picky. Anyways thats why they call it fishing right??

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD FISHING!!! grin.gif

EYESNAGGER......Not much good news to report. Just got back from Waubay about 7 tonight. Fished all day yesterday, and today till 3:30. Yesterday we had 23 perch and 4 small walleyes for 5 guys. Today we ended up with 5 perch and a walleye, and threw one walleye back that would have lost in armwrestling to my fathead he was so small. We were up in the Grenville area on the east side of the heave. We did hear of some walleyes being caught off the Kanago access, but not sure where. Hopefully you hve a little better luck on the weekend. The fish are there but they just wouldn't take a bite. Maybe they will open up for you.

PERCHJR.

We went to look at the refuge and saw only about 3 shacks. they were all coming off the lake. they didn't catch a thing. Between the two of us we managed about 33 perch total. (Kept catching perch for fun after we limited and tried for a walleye) I marked alot of fish but they were finicky. Like you said, the aggressive one in the bunch would bite but light. I use noodle rods and 2lb. test on everything I fish with so I can see not feel a light bite. I was constantly changing jigs. I found that when I would switch I would catch two or three fish and then go dead. So I repeated this all day. I caught 22 perch total and the guy I was with caught 11. We fished from about noon to 5. Heading back on Sat. unless my buddy (the scout) finds something better. He is going out today and friday.

Could this be the "SWAMPY" that I know, this is Larry Jr. Anyways let me know if I am right, I have fished Richmond about 3 times in the last week and a half. We did pretty good, one night we caught 1 eye, and 3 gills and 3 crappies, another time we just caught 2 gills, I have graphed alot of fish everytime we have been out, but they are very hard to get to bite!! If you are ever back in the neighborhood look me up and we can go fishing!!! grin.gif

Just got the fishing report for Waubay for Thursday. It was BAD! My buddy and his dad went out of grenville and he was mobile all day and never got a bite. He had a camera and only saw 2 small perch, one walleye and a northern. Last week Grenville was good. Maybe the fish moved south. Perchjr. maybe fishing south this weekend may be a place to start. I'm not sure if we are going to Waubay or not on sat. My buddy was pretty PO'd last night. thinking of trying something else. I am looking at maps right now looking to come up witha game plan. I think it's another year to go looking for small sloughs. Last time we did that, we used a whole weekend drilling small sloughs, spending an hour and going to the next. We found a place to ourselves for a year and a half that produced 1 to 4 15" perch each outing. Word got out and I quite fishing it. It's now fished out. Last year I heard someone seriously overbagged. they took over 200 14" plus perch out of it. Good way to ruin a good spot.!!

aquafang and PERCHJR, do you guys take a two way radio with you and what channel do you monitor? I am going to Waubay Lake Saturday. Maybe we can let each other know if we find fish. I think I'll be on the south end in the deeper water.
