Taking a winter snowshoe hare is on my bucket list, any tips or pointers? During deer season i seen some tracks on my land by willow river, is that a good area or do I need to go farther north? Anyone interested in doing a trip/ hunt?

I used to hunt them alot too. We did best near swamps or river bottoms, around beaver ponds and edges of popple slashes. Haven't seen hardly any last 2 years in N.Mn. Predators have been hard on them.

That is why I pretty much gave up on hunting them since the predators were cleaning them up pretty well. I contacted the DNR once and asked about it and the said they really don't manage rabbits plus their on the bottom of the 10 year cycle!  Bla, Bla, Bla, the same thing they say about everything. That was about 12 years go........so. ?

The one I saw in my driveway last year was the first I’d seen in a pretty long while in MN too.

We used to have good numbers in the Pine River area, oh, 30 years ago.  I think I recall hearing their area was shrinking / moving north for this or that reason.  Low/no snow seasons may have been cited.

I think I saw one Saturday night in Devils Lake.  It was white and didn’t quite size up to a jack rabbit.  Weird; now thinking about it, it’s been odd to see a snowshoe hare.  Not quite the thrill of seeing a moose on Friday but I still find them cool to look at.
