Might depend on where they come from - not sure about that.  I've also caught tullibee that are wormy, and I've never seen a wormy whitefish.

 

And then there is also the mooneye in the Rainy River system, which look similar, but are also soft and mushy.

back about 15-20 years ago ya could go out on leech and pound the tullies.............off of stony point it be like a huge city out there fishing tullies...............and catching hundreds...... at that point no limit.....hence blood bath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They can roam all over in the water column. They'll follow your offering up and down.  After you fish for them for a while you can tell by their behavior on the locator that they are probably a Tullibee. Hard to explain....but they seem to be constantly on the move. Never just sitting there and staring at your offering.

in march when they where on the feed bag we'd cut them open and use the fresh mayflies!!

 

 

that is what we'd do too.  worked like a charm!!
