Ticks -20 degrees

Recommended Posts

obviously this isn't even close to a cooking thought.

How in the world do we have ticks in Minnesota when it's -20 degrees sometimes?  We have Winter kill on fish, why not Winter kill on ticks.  It's not fair!

Ok, since on this thread we're talking non-cooking, not trying to hijack thread....really. Just want to seriously lament the loss of Glenn Frey today of The Eagles. 67 years old. Huge loss for the music world...and me. Music is a big part of my life. The Eagles were a huge part of my life. May you RIP, my friend.   crying-sad-waving-bye-smiley-emoticon.gi

nice post reb!!! I was shocked to hear this too!!!! apparently from complications to some surgery he had. KQRS had an awesome tribute to him playing nothing but some of his solo's and eagle tunes this afternoon on the way home from work. I had the radio cranked, mighta sounded like some of them young kids driving by that made the next 3 vehicles vibrate!!!!!

My understanding is extreme cold does have an effect on ticks with some die offs.  Snow cover plays a part.  The more snow the more insulation.  They bury themselves in debris and go into hibernation.  Some scientists say fluctuation in temps in winter can kill more ticks than a steady cold.  When it get's warmer the ticks come out of their hiding places and then a sudden freeze gets them before they go back.  Would be weird if scientist figure out this "hibernation" method and folks could live a long time.  But would the aging process continue to go on?  Well enough of the Frankenstein theory.  good luck.

the reason I thought of it actually was because I thought of my septic system at cabin and lack of snow this year so we're thinking the same way, sort of, RH on the ticks.  We need to lure those Lymes ones out with some heat and then freeze dry em.

Glen Frey...I do this celebrity death "game" with a few buddies every week.  I stink at it but did get Glen Frey in the game this week.  We decided doing a death pool wasn't in our nature so instead we made it a celebrity obit game instead.  As time goes by it seems the "celebrity" thing can get stretched pretty far but we do have some unwritten rules to keep it slightly above board on who we pick.
