bobberineyes
Afternoon fellas, haven't done much today, picked up some gardening stuff at the h store , grabbed some odds n ends and out the door. After lunch since onions are pretty hardy I planted 17 started onions in the raised bed, when I say raised this thing is 3' off the ground, the soil temp is fairly warm already. The Mrs is going out with the gals, I have to drop the daughter off at a b-day party and go back and pick her up at 11, so I think I'll treat the boy and I to some taco John's later, not much for fast food but been craving some today for some reason. Rh, that looks like a blast up yonder, great pics, take your meds LL . reinhard1 and Dotch
leechlake
After nap three today I got tired of sitting around so I headed to the grocery store. I pushed the cart around and I was trying to find MSG to buy, I've never bought it but wanted some. I couldn't find it? I stood in front of the spice section staring back and forth for a long time and then gave up. I hate to admit this but I was "shopping" not buying. Didn't find anything in the meat section that tripped my trigger. Wandered the frozen section for a while until I realized I was just like the older lady in the Rascal in front of me killing time on a Saturday afternoon. The only thing that sounded good was to grab a few garlic bulbs and bake them and smear it on italian bread but I lost my mojo and left the store with nothing. Pretty much felt like I had shoplifted something when I walked out to the parking lot empty handed. I'm not looking forward to another night of dreams of goblins, flying fish, and purple amoebas but I'm putting a notepad on my nightstand so I can write down my dreams...unless it's a good one about he K chick! The world is all about hope. Belle eyeing up Tollhouse cookie batter. Edited April 2, 2016 by leechlake bobberineyes and LindellProStaf

RebelSS
Highlife4me is right....Accent, the best known MSG, I think, is hardly on many shelves, at least I haven't seen the stuff for years. 'Course, that don't mean much.
leechlake
I know they didn't have accent at Cub. I assume the world is against it. Kramer used to order Chinese with extra MSG

LindellProStaf
Mono Sodium Glutamate. It is supposed to bring out the flavors in things. Not quite a salt but compliments natural food flavors. I guess it is used BIG TIME in Asian Buffets. Some people worry about it not being healthy. I just read a bunch of stuff a few weeks ago and couldn't find a study that actually found it harmful. I see it is in most seasonings. I like the seasonings it is in too. I remember the Adolf's Meat Tenderizer commercials. It was popular back when the backyard grilling really started taking off. My dad did a lot of grilling and it was great. Probably what started me on it. I was one of the first younger guys to have a Weber. AND I am still not expert, just practicing..... I just checked and Lawrey's says no MSG. So there is some concern from a marketing point of view.
RebelSS
I did a mini "study" on that years ago, just for fun. Pretty interesting. Per medical journals, is supposed to rile up some type of response in the body, causing mild to severe headaches, breathing probs, and a whole slew of stuff. Read it in the MAYO journals Results were inconclusive and unable to prove anything. I think I reached for another eggroll after reading that. Look for "hydrlized yeast" in the ingredient list. Anchovies also full of glutamates, which add umami. Msg 7.25 per pound on amazon. Also have accent. delcecchi
There are two things that give the Umami to food, glutamates and nucleotides. Anchovies, which are small fish typically packed in salt or in cans, contain a lot of glutamates. So does Monosodium Glutamate (accent) which is some sort of synthetic chemical thing. Umami is sort of a meaty taste, sometimes called the "fifth flavor" along with salt, sweet, bitter, sour. (and in Boar's case, smome) Edited April 3, 2016 by delcecchi reinhard1

delcecchi
It is quite inexpensive on Amazon if the asian places don't have it. Lifetime supply for 8 bucks. At least a pound would probably last me a lifetime. reinhard1
leechlake
My plan was to bring a pen and paper to bed so I could right my funky dreams down. One of the first dreams was that I forgot to bring a pen and paper to bed, seriously. Ironic I remember that dream me thinks. The only other dream I had was that I was a border agent near Mexico and our superiors told us not to arrest people illegally crossing the border. We were mad so not only did we not arrest them we picked them up and took them where they wanted to go. The news was on tv and I think the audio entered my brain. Tonight I'm putting some more suggestive show on to see if that spurs one of those "fun" dreams. Wife and daughter are getting out of Dodge today til Tuesday or so. College visit with a couple other moms and friends. I want to go to the cabin but I gotta get rid of this bug. I was happy my eyes didn't hurt but now they hurt when I look sharply to the right or left. I watched so much tv yesterday I eventually was watching a sub titled movie and then "Shane" was on and I watched a little of that. I gotta run to the store and get the Sunday paper. It's the only paper we used to get and Star and Trib irritated us so we canceled delivery and my job is to get it 1/2 mile away. I look at the outdoors section but rarely read the Q & A Dennis has or the hunting/fishing trip with his friends. I used to read the Cub ad but RH synopsizes it on here. That leaves the Fleet Farm ad and this time of the year it's a treasure trove of fun. $2 to read a FF ad and it's worth every penny! Well I woke up thinking of this spooky clowns great voice. I googled him and he has quite a following and there are lots of youtube songs. I also dreamt that I was going to get a tatoo but the guy said my tongue would change colors and it would be permanent and noone knew what color it would be. WOW! Thank god I woke up. Weird... Another cold day today. I am just going to listen to clown songs now. See ya all later. And this ones for you LL. She sings a song with the Clown also...... Dotch
Whew! Pancake feed done, bottle lambs fed and time to get off my feet. Concrete since 6 a.m. makes the knees, hips and back hurt. I gotta stay in motion and on the dirt methinks. Almost looked like someone was going to stick me with a double shift. After being a nice guy a few times, it ain't gonna happen. People to do and things to see. Did thaw a couple legs out yesterday and refrigerated them. Trying to get my ambition up to cube them, make marinade and cut up veggies. May have to take a half hour nap and think about it. Started the Stude yesterday and limbered it up. All systems looked to be functioning and intact. Definitely will take it out for a short drive later. Trouble is once I get in it I don't want to get out. Should also get the birthday present I bought myself put up; a wood duck house. Time for that another weekend. RebelSS, bobberineyes, reinhard1 and 1 other

Dotch
Ah, what a nice day for a short spin in the Stude. A little breezy perhaps but 73 degrees outside when I pulled out of the yard. Motivated enough first to get my lamb kabobs marinating and cut up my veggies. Will grill that stuff tomorrow night. Mrs. Cheviot did the chores so flew solo. Did not attempt to pick up any senior citizen chicks however as I had no Depends or Polident to bribe them with. Visited Vista's noted Swedish astronomer and then went to visit my sheep shearer. He had a cold libation waiting for me as we watched his lambs play while his young Border Collie's attention focused on them. Relaxing way to end a Sunday afternoon. The only bad thing was there were a lot of bugs to wipe off when I got back. Gotta pay to play. bobberineyes, RebelSS and roony

RebelSS
Boy, sure is quiet for a Monday....29* degrees here and cloudy....a 42* difference from yday. That is not good for the body, all these up's and downs. Hard on yer systems. Sure makes me ache like crazy. Have an RA doc appt later this morning, so they can try to put me on more spendy meds that I can't afford, and won't stop the pain anyway. Then off to get some groceries, my freezer is empty. It looks like I won't be grilling out this week, or all week for that matter. Rotten weather. My crabapple and lilacs are all budded out and ready to pop. I fear this may be one of those MInnysoda years of "No Spring", where we pretty much pop right into Summer with no gradual warm up or greening. Remember a few of those. Not good for getting a start on planting those veggies. Or getting the boat on the water. Have a good day guys...I'm heading for a second cup of I-made-it-too-weak cawfee........
