RebelSS
Good morning, right. 28*, howling winds of 35 MPH, gusting to 46 MPH, and 1" snow last nite. Small branches broke off everywhere. Danged windows are rattling. Not going in the right direction is putting it mildly, LPS. I'm gonna have cawfee and glare out the window. I gotta move to Californy with my cuz. Looked back in some of my E-mails, and last year on today's date it was sunny, 76*, and i was grilling a rack of ribs..... Popular Post reinhard1
Good morning. Was gone all day yesterday attempting to land a steelhead or looper up on the beautiful North Shore of the big lake. One the way up as I reached Duluth, waves of heavy snow came down. Where once was daylight it was then time for headlights and travel from 50 mph to 10. London Road was all white until I got to the Lester River and all was good again. I thought for sure that the day was going to be a rough one and cold but it was in the morning for awhile and as the day progressed it was really nice out. Sunny and comfortable even though the temp was under 40 degrees for all of the day. Fishing was slow, real slow. We knew that this was going to be a fishing day and not a catching day. I consider a catching day a bonus anyway especially when you are going after these fish. Turned out that we were right and came home fishless. But it's early and the spawn has yet to start. It was great being up there and I enjoyed every minute of it and ready to go up there again. With some more rain and warmer weather, the fish will come in and the chances will get better. One side benefit to fishing the north shore streams is that you get plenty of exercise with walking the trails and up and down the hills. Well worth it. good luck. The streams are flowing and the water was cold and slightly stained. Even the very small streams that run in the big lake hold fish. There were some hardy anglers out trolling also on the shore. Standing on the gravel near sheets of bank ice is a better bet in searching for the trout. Headwaters of pools and tailwaters of pools are often your best bets. Caught this nice full arc of a rainbow below the lower falls of the Gooseberry. Gooseberry park was packed with tourists yesterday and my brother and I were the only anglers. Many stopped just to watch us fish. Almost like they never saw a fisherman before. I think everyone had a fancy camera or their I phones. IMG_0116.3gp Hope the video comes up. smurfy, RebelSS, LindellProStaf and 6 others
RebelSS
Wow! great pics and vid, RH! That first pic would make a nice screensaver....and love that rainbow. I always wanted to go to Gooseberry Falls, maybe someday. is that water pretty muddied up? reinhard1
Popular Post Dotch
After some cereal and coffee con Bailey's think I'm ready to settle in on a writing project. Hmmmm...maybe more Baileys and coffee. Yeah, that's the ticket! We had 27 at choretime with wind gusts of up to 46 mph and a light dusting of snow. At least we didn't have to shovel the wind. All the newbies made it through the night with flying colors even though I messed up and forgot to close the vent in the lambing barn last night. Might've had something to do with a little overindulgence last nite on my part but hey, never turn down "free" juniper berry extract and quinine water except if you're driving. And I wasn't. Went to a little place (112 on Broadway) with some friends in downtown Albert Lea and enjoyed getting away from the ranch if only for a while. Feelin' the burn this a.m. from those jalapeño's.Fortunately I got to the barn ahead of Mrs. Cheviot this a.m. and closed the vent quick so I didn't incur her wrath. What she doesn't know won't hurt her, most of the time anyway. Need to put the charger on the Hawk and check it over to make sure all the oil isn't in a puddle on the floor or something. It leaks a little as do most old cars with cork seals. Hopefully we can get a few more seasons out of the engine before the inevitable rebuild/overhaul needs to happen. Not burning oil so that's a plus. Need to survey the Lark project too and see what needs to be done to get that process back on track now that winter appears to be on the ropes. Lots of fond memories in that car. Lucky the front seat did not fold flat in that one although the back seat was so narrow that I resorted to only dating skinny girls. Have to do the Lion's Club deal tomorrow so probably won't be on here very early. Kind of a bittersweet deal these pancake feeds. They pretty well burn half a day but the flip side is they usually benefit someone who desperately needs the help. I guess if I were in their shoes, I'd sure appreciate it if someone did the same for me. bobberineyes, LindellProStaf, reinhard1 and 2 others
reinhard1
Not really muddy yet. Some of your rivers like the Knife for example has more clay banks and tends to get more murky and some like the Sucker stay fairly clear. But the more rain even the Sucker gets more stained with more run-off and then you can tell when you luck should improve. The Sucker River was clear while the others were slightly stained. where you able to see the video? I press the deal but nothing to view. First time trying to post a video from my camera on here. good luck. LindellProStaf

Dotch
Got the video to work on my phone but not on my confuser RH. Think I'm due for an upgrade in that department. Getting tough to find those 5 1/4" floppies anymore. Very nice video and made me want to be there listening to that rapids. reinhard1
Coffee118
Nice pics RH, it's been 20 years since I was at gooseberry falls. Popular Post LindellProStaf
Ya I love that area too. I proposed to my wonderful wife at the end of the sea wall at Two Harbors. It was a cold and windy day and she wondered if I was off my rocker when I said we should go for a walk out there. lol It was cold and rainy the day before so I was running out of time and had to go for it that day. Really surprised her. I even got down on my knees. Felt good too. So glad I did it. Best thing that ever happened to me. Beautiful pics RH. bobberineyes, leechlake, Boar and 2 others

Coffee118
That was week two of my honeymoon. We spent a week in Florida for her and a week in Minnesota for me. I hated Florida and she didn't care for Minnesota or the U.P. Did I forget to say that she is now my ex wife gunner55, reinhard1, Boar and 1 other

leechlake
Man down...I had Woodstock style dreams last night due to the flu. My skin hurts on my back like needles are being pushed in but this accupuncute isn't working. I was freezing last night and one dream I had Smurfy was in it and he and I were kids working on some "get rich quick scheme" on the streets of what looked like 1950's Brooklyn. When I woke up I vowed I'd remember it because it was pretty funny but I can't now. I'm trying to get moving in some capacity but it just isn't working. I'm bored and I ache. I took a hot tub to try to deflect some pain with scalding water. My wife pumped out two kids like it was nothing and when I get sick it's kind of embarrassing frankly, I act like it's Purple Heart worthy. Popular Post Dotch
Awwww....and what Saturday would be complete without a photo op for the woollies? Newest set of triplets with mommy. This was the best shot I could get as they are some real livewires. The odds of getting all three to sit still are slim to none. Oh well, maybe they'll make LL feel better. I bet catching that big fish yesterday must've tuckered him out and worn his defenses down. smurfy, RebelSS, bobberineyes and 4 others
