Good Morning!

Good morning! Sun is shining for a couple days looks like and most of the snow is gone.

Good weekend other than getting hit in the berries yesterday while vaccinating, ear tagging and docking lambs. Ewe decided to jump the panel and when she caught the top of the panel, the hanging feed pan got flung right into my groin area. Of course all the tagging and vaccination stuff went flying too. I was doubled over, grimacing in agony while Mrs. Cheviot was grumbling, trying to pick up all the stuff. I'm gonna hafta start wearing more protective gear I guess. :P

Got one helluva power nap in yesterday first though. We opted for the Easter brunch after church at The Willows first; a wise decision. We got there ahead of the major crowd and stuffed ourselves. Went home and fed the bottle lambs then "watched" the replay of the Gopher women's hockey team winning the national championship. Since I knew they'd score right away and then not again until the 3rd period I could nap in between. Gotta love it when a plan comes together!

Need to get more hay and straw after lunch. The wet weather really chews up the bedding. Should go to a visitation for one of the local patriarchs this afternoon or tonight but just won't make it with all the chores, moving pens of critters and other assorted fun and games. We are sending a plant and I will make the funeral tomorrow. This guy did a lot for the community and for us personally as well. It's the least I can do to pay my respects.

Good Morning.

as the dogs and I were hitting the sack last night we got a message on the Direct tv screen and hit the button.  There is a new channel they are promoting about "Dog Meditation".   Belle had my left leg pinned to the bed while she slept and the golden was getting his ears scratched as I watched.  They had some music playing and what looked like videos any of us could have shot of landscapes here and there.  I was curious so I hit the button to see if this was for people or dogs?  If it was for people I could buy it but if it was for dogs, which it is, I'm perplexed.  I yelled down to Brit who was sleeping on the living room couch but she didn't come up to unwind and watch.

I guess when our dogs are feeling stress they need to tune into channel 354 and relax for a while.

PS- Dotch.  Remember out NCAA fiasco?  The original picks I made are in first place so far that nobody could catch it.  Problem is that they didn't get entered in the correct pool because someone at wife's company had an initial problem setting up this years contest.  Oh well, no stress in being in 28th place :) when you're watching the dog meditation channel.

Good afternoon guys.  Had a nice relaxing Easter at our house yesterday.  Went for a couple of walks along the river and in our woods.  Had some big branches blow down in the last week. Didn't know it was that windy.

I had the new dog buddy in my lap while watching TV yesterday and Bob the cat jumped up into my chair too.  She never does that when one of the dogs is on our lap.  Buddy took one look at her and he jumped right to the floor.  My wife and I started laughing and we think Bob got jealous cuz Buddy was in my lap.  Well Bob didn't stay long neither but just walked around the room looking cool and feeling good about herself.  Hilarious.  They do get along fine though so that is a good thing.

I did take a pic of my ribs for you BUT.  I did actually forget to do it so put them back on the foil and the pic is not very flattering so will try again next time.  I didn't have my timing down to good on the rib smoke and the wife's vegetable casserole got over done.  Darn my fault.  Still tasted good just a little soft.  I will be eating them and complimenting her till they are gone though. ;)

My floating dock is still frozen to the shore line so can't tie my boat up to it yet so didn't put the boat in the water this weekend.  I sure like just going for a slow cruise up and down the river.  Maybe next week.

Have a good week.

Maybe just maybe someone will take LL under their wing.

nope.  My neighbor is awesome.  He wouldn't shoot at me.  We've got one of those old school neighbor relationships going that is now a great friendship.  I don't know if I could ask him anything he wouldn't help with and vice versa.  He did pick me off on my ProV that he bought but that's okay.  I was hardly using it anymore and he got a great deal.

It's probably pretty easy for him to be such a good guy since he's got a great neighbor.  Lucky devil basically won the lottery when he moved in next to me.  We should start a "neighbor" thread.  Who wants to go first?

Morning found myself cleaning out the Junk drawer in the big desk, well more like sorting through the Junk Drawer. I think when it was all said and done not many things actually found the bottom of the garbage can. Use to have one in the kitchen but last remodel it was removed because we needed another towel drawer. Don’t think I have ever pulled a towel out of it as it still in my mind is the Junk Drawer. Donut holes and milk for breakfast this morning, nothing fancy but it hits the spot!

Soo Foo as we called it.  I don't know why.  Being from Luverne that is where we went to have "big city" fun.  It was probably about 60-80,000 at the time.  There was a drive thru liquor store near the interstate.  A bunch of us would jump in a car and head for Soo Foo to get stocked up for the weekend.  Needless to say they didn't check ID's much back then.  Man what we got away with.  AND we had some great times.  Luverne is a great town.

After having the rest of our ribs leftovers last night I think they are one of the best racks I have done in awhile.  I did my regular dry rub.  Nothing special, onion powder, garlic powder, Lawrey's, paprika, and some cayenne.  Didn't do the brown sugar thing this time.  Turned pellet stove to 250 and let er rip. I did sprinkle some regular sugar on after about 2 hours to get some browning.  I then at 3 hours did a 50/50 apple juice and apple vinegar and sprinkled it on every half hour.  1/2 hour before I took them off I put the rest of a bottle of Black Dog Sweet and Spicy on them.  Did not do the the foiling thing at all except for a little sit in foil after I took them out.  Turned out great with a little kick.  The wife doesn't like much kick but she ate them so they weren't too bad to her neither.   The big thing I got out of this is that they pulled off the bone nice and they weren't mushy as the previous couple of racks were.  Had a nice bark and seemed to be done just right.   The Fast Eddy method calls for 275 for 3 hours so I basically did 250 for 4 hours.  The wife said maybe that will be the Slow Barry Method..  lol  I will do them the same way the next time.

Well it is going to be near 50 here today.  I guess the river is clearing up some so more boats are in the area.  I haven't heard if many fish are being caught.  Actually a guy told me yesterday some guys are still going out on the lake a ways with wheelers and there is 19" of good ice.  They are catching a few eyes and saugers at dusk.  Hmm  sounds fun too.

Ok off to work.  Have a great day all and LL be very careful on that lawn tractor.

And Smurfy stay away from the drive thru's early in the day.

Doing some harvesting this afternoon.  Dogwoods, lilacs, astilbes, hydrangeas, and a few other crops are going to be the target.  It's fun to be a farmer.  I've got a day crew coming in that live just north of me about 30 feet in their bedrooms and a hot number I've had my eye on is going to be helping too.  I don't know what the sexual harassment rules are for day work but I'm going to violate them on her anyway so ignorance is bliss.

I've got my own lawn tractor.  It's a Simplicity and it has this push down bar on it that is supposed to help you do kind of a striping pattern in the lawn.  Great idea except that bar pushes down and climbing any sort of hill is impeded drastically and frankly makes you mow many hills downhill only.  A major inconvenience.  If your lawn was a flat football field or a golf course fairway it would be a slick mower.

I've got a woodpecker pecking on my gutters this morning.  I guess metal is better than stucco to a woodpecker.  Maybe he should try a tree or maybe he may meet my pellet gun (I know it may be illegal but that makes it more fun).

Be nice to people today fellas.

A few minutes before I have to get ready to go to a funeral so here goes:

Good news: Lambs and ewes moved last night so we're down to one pen in the lambing barn, and that one can be moved. Bad news: Another ewe telegraphing her lambing as we finished chores so after the funeral, suspect we'll have another pen in there. Good news: Only about 3 left to lamb in the near term.

One of my mowers is an Agco-Allis, basically a Simplicity. It has the roller bar on the back of the deck which as you say LL makes it miserable to mow sometimes in places where it's uneven or on a steep grade. We have very few flat spots so mowing on a contour is about the only way some of it works with that machine. Tends to get hung up so you sit and spin. I also have an older White I use for the steep road cut here and for other places the Agco is a pain to use. It has a lower center of gravity so when I mow the road cut, it's like watching those guys counterbalancing a sailboat. Not something you want to do if you're half in the bag.

Well better keep moving.Things to see and people to do.

I love driving into Sx Falls on I90.  Brings back nothing but great memories.  My first job included Sx Falls as part of my territory and all the other memories are hunting related.  Great town and by no small coincidence Money Magazine named Sioux Falls the #1 place to live the first year that Sioux Falls was in my territory.   I like to think it was my impact that catapulted it to first place.

Contgrats to the Union fellas.  I don't know who, what, why, how but as I was hitting the sack on the news they mentioned some Supreme Court 4-4 tie that benefited "Organized Labor" I assume that's supposed to be some association with "Big Union".  Your attorney union brothers did you good!!!

Awesome rainy day.  I don't know why but some rain days seem welcomed beyond "we could use the rain."  Maybe it's because I cleaned up all the bushes and blew some stuff around, and cleaned up the yard.  Now the rain will add the finishing touch to things.
