I already had a mid life crisis.  Maybe I'm having another on though...fair enough.  Right now I'm living vicariously through you Dotch.  I'm a sheep herder wanna be.  Btw we're not doing to hot in the NCAA bracket right now but I'm sure we're going to gain some mojo as time goes on.  Funny, I'd never watch a college hoops game but I do enjoy the tournament stuff.  My eyes glaze over when it's 4-2 but once they game gets going it's pretty good tv.

Yes, it's perfectly normal to have multiple mid-life crises. I have one every few days. Then I look at my bank account and it passes.:(The sheep are merely a diversion. The lambs are chick magnets. I live vicariously through the little buggers when some hot babe clutches them to her bosom, then cuddles and coos to them. :D I see that I got a couple major owies right out of the chute on the NCAA brackets. I am confident as you say that we will prevail however, sending all that hard earned cash to charity. I'm sure we will get lots of "help" here deciding which ones we should choose when/if that happens. Of course we'll be watching hockey tonight but flipping back and forth to catch up on the scores. Then livestream to Gopher women's BB game Sunday. Truly March Madness with lambing season tossed in for laughs.

Good morning.  11 degrees here.    Sucks.  I just went out and loaded the wood stove in the garage/shop.  Nice and warm out there.  Dries up the floor good from the vehicles dripping out there.  I bought one of those floor fans and move it around the vehicles and with the ceiling fan it dries it up nicely.  Good investment.

Boats are on the river.  It is nice and calm now but I see we will have some winds of about 8 mph today.  Not bad but you can definately feel that.  Haven't heard if anyone is catching fish.  I have mixed feelings about this spring fishing thing.  I do it a few times but it has to be hard on those spawning females to be catching them all day long.  I only go out for awhile, catch a few and then hang it up.  It doesn't feel right to overdo it to me.  Big beautiful fish though some years.  I had a good friend from Luverne come up a few years ago and we caught some nice ones.  First time he ever caught big walleyes like that.  But we only went out caught a few and then came back in.  I couldn't sit there and catch 100 fish all day for 3 days. That has to do some damage to the fishery.  I have only lived here going on 11 years.  I have even seen a drop in the fishing quantity and quality since I have been here.  Fewer fish caught ice fishing it seems each year.   The locals say the same thing.  It is all about money though.  The resorts want to fill their rooms so they avoid talking about the health of the fishery.  Oh well, only my opinion but I think we need to lower the limit some and shorten the season some too.  It is like an open season to try to take em all now.

I took out a pork roast to cook/smoke this weekend.  Not sure what I will do, may just throw it on the pellet smoker after I do a dry rub on it and let er go.  Maybe do it about 250 for awhile and then turn it up to 300 after a couple of hours.  Any ideas are certainly welcome. It is about a 4 lber.  I haven't opened it yet but it might be a ham roast.

Other than that I have no big plans for Sat. and Sun.  Probably do some work on inventory here and just go for a walk and enjoy whatever the wife has up her sleeve.  She is still in bed so I am enjoying some quiet with the animals.  Bob, Sammy, and Buddy.  All super great friends.  Well you all have a nice day and looking forward to hearing from you.

I've got 7 different things to type in my mind and I gotta pick one...hmmm....  while I enjoy the Morning thread and reading what you guys post I think I do this just to type what's on my mind so thanks for letting me do that, whether you read it or not doesn't probably even matter.

Many times during the year the date on the calendar doesn't match what it feels like outside.  Today is exactly one of those days, at least at my house.  I went out on the deck and took a pee to save water and there is about 1/2 inch of snow and the pond is open water and it feels exactly like the Second Week of Deer Hunting.  It seems too cold for open water and it's what we call a "dreary" November like day but I absolutely love those November days.  You hear me RH? You're at deer camp, the "edge" of opening weekend is gone, a few friends still hunting with you, a smidge of snow, and your deer rifle in your hand.  Makes me feel like I'm a little kid watching Daniel Boone but I'm actually Daniel Boone.  I think the only thing that would make it better is I was wearing my old red wool deer hunting coat.

Last thing, I'm going up to cabin next weekend and I'm going to go take photos of all still standing deer stands we have.  Most are now unusable but I want to put a little album together of them so when I'm slipping in my old age I can go back and relive the memories.

Have a fun day fellas.

I'm laughing LPS.  I'm listening to Electric Light Orchestra right now.  I gave my older brother in law grief for years because he listens to KOOL 108 oldies.  I was in the wifes car yesterday and it has about 1000 radio buttons and I found ELO playing Sweet Talking Woman.  I've been listening to it in a loop since last night.  I need a break and will try Jolene and Miley.  Funny...also I had a dirty dream last night that I had forgotten about and she had short blond hair.  Irony LPS???

Morning fellers,  all coffeed out made the big switch to dr pepper. The Mrs and I are heading to the wild game after a bit, 1 o'clock game today so still have time do some dead cow on the grill later.

Not liking the wet white stuff outside,  planted a bunch of lettuce seeds last weekend in starter pots which have broke the surface already, was looking transplant them soon in the raised garden but not looking good for a while yet, oh well.  On the bright side the Mrs just started the shower....I gots to go...;)

Ah, a few minutes to type so here goes: About 3" of snow since yesterday afternoon. It's kinda purty if nothing else. A half inch or so melted but everything including the trees is white as I suspect it is over in Reb-Del land. Melted .27" of water out of the sample so it's some slop. Still snowing lightly too. Have to laugh at some people. Some of the excitable types were convinced we'd be in the field by Monday. This snow was not forecast here a couple days ago. March does what it pleases. How soon we forget.

Mrs. Cheviot left to go play with some of her girlfriends so I'm left to my own devices until mid-afternoon. Trying in vain so far to motivate and go birthday shopping for her. Not sure what I'll wind up with but I'll think of something. Haven't used the old box of Buster Bars trick for a while so that might be a start. When she gets home she wants to just veg after chores to watch BB and hockey so I'm not arguing. Just wants pizza so not arguing there either. Will need to get lamburger out to thaw in the meantime for Sunday.

Lambing barn is about full so we'll need to process and move some more lambs down to the main barn tomorrow. Have a couple bottle lambs to feed at noon so will need to do that in a bit. Taking a lot of bedding to keep everything dry right now. Once you bed it though, it looks inviting. Dry and warm enough so you could lay down and take a nap in the straw. Been lambing for almost a month so a nap under my favorite blankie sounds good right about now.

the good thing about the snow is it worked perfect for kid tracking snow.  We had two groups of kids sleeping over and the wife is obsessed about them sneaking out and it's hard for them not to get caught if there is snow.  She bent my ear about it before she fell asleep at 10pm and left me as Sentry.  I'd rather watch over a barn full of lambs than these kids. They are sneaky buggers.  My simple trick is that I turn the alarm on and if the basement door is open a can of whoop a$$ goes off.  The kids were on to me last night though, I think.

I went to turn the alarm on around midnight once the coming and going was over and the alarm wouldn't arm.  Hmmmm.   Seems someone had cracked the front door just enough so the contact wasn't being made so the alarm wouldn't go on and they figured I'd be too lazy to walk around and figure it out.  I'm sure merely an innocent mistake, right?

Once I completed my Barney Fife rounds of the compound I inhaled deeply through my nose with pride and hit the sack.  Obviously the dirty dream was my reward for a job well done.

Good Morning!  Last to bed and first awake again...I kind of like that martyr feeling associated with it :)

Here's a new one.  A buddy of mine is trying to get me to do some Uber driving.  No kidding.  He's selling me on it like it's actually fun and he caught me yesterday when I was done with my major task of installing a three way light switch and had nothing to do but take a nap.  "Dude, I had two hours to kill before I had to pick my daughter up so I just went on the app and did two rides and made 50 bucks."  (I understand the math of gas, vehicle expense so spare me those thoughts any retired engineers :) )

Ironically I had three hours to kill last night while waiting to pick my daughter and her friends up last so I did some research on it.  I can think of multiple gut instinct reasons not to do it but his enthusiasm has me laughing enough to maybe do a "ride along" with him.

It almost makes me feel like I'm retired and looking at something different than bagging groceries like a lot of fellas do.  That's a good feeling actually.  Maybe I will up and move to Florida too.

The sun is pondering coming up and I can hear the birds outside and I can see the shadows out on the pond.  It looks like an Uber day!!!

Good morning all!!! Coffee is done and tasting gooooooood!!!!

Fire up the smoker day here today. Bacon is rinsed and drying as we speak and will be first into the smoker for about 6 hours of cold smoke with the pellet maze thingy. After I get that in, I'll be prepping the eye of round roast for being second into the smoker.

Only a couple cobs of wood left in the garage, so I'll have to at least bring a wheelbarrow load in today.

Good Morning.  Nice Sunny day today with a chill in the air for the first day of spring.  Have a friend who lives north of Sandstone off 23 and she say's she seen a couple of robins.  Haven't seen any yet here in Andover.  Getting ready to make a prime rib.  My adopted son is bringing over his new girlfriend for dinner.  This gal is a winner.  Love's to fish and hunt, and I mean for real.  Even bear hunts.  She doesn't like prime rib much but I'm making it anyway, and I have a porterhouse for her.  I'll have her take a bite of the rib roast though.  She say's every time she has had some it was dry or tough.  Well, that won't be the case here.  Tony [my adopted son] hated kraut before he tasted my German kraut with the bacon in the German Gumbo, and now thinks it's a bomb.  Funny how negative words like bomb are terms for greatest thing around.  I got to order up more seasoning, especially breakfast sausage wich will be my last batch for the deer camp share deal.  Gonna make another batch for our house as well.  have plenty of those 97 cents lb. pork butts to grind.  Have a great 1st day of spring.  good luck.

Ya good morning all. I just got up around 8 this morning.  I won the pretend you are asleep when the dogs tails start knocking on the walls and the cat is walking on us. I almost start laughing but I know that will blow my cover.  I sleep with a pillow over my head sometimes to block out all of the noise so that gives me a little more hiding cover.  On the weekends we have fancy coffee.  Yesterday it was Jamaica Me Crazy, today it is Vanilla Hazelnut.  I always put a shot of honey in my first cup.  The wife is kind of serious today.  She sends her best friend an email everyday and her friend responds and Outlook keeps saying it can't carry out the task.  I just tried to send one to her and I got the same thing.  Outlook can't process this task.  Wonder what that means.  I get other emails.  You know we just changed providers and everything has been great up till now.  As a matter of fact when we go through the Schoberg Cable page the emails go right through.  ???

RH I wish I was your adopted son.  Man prime rib and porterhouses and your german kraut makes me drool.  And home made breakfast sausage sounds great too.  I need to make some of that.  I will look at your page for a good recipe for patties.  Thanks for the idea.

I am moving a little slow today too Boar.  I smoked that pork ham roast and it turned out great.  I used my smoke tube too.  I got the 12" one.  I kept it on till it hit 160 then foiled it till 190 and then had to let it rest in a cooler bundled with towels so that took 2 hours longer than I thought so had more fun during that time than I had planned on.  Martini's became the hot subject for me.  I love olives. :D

Well since we are all getting to be pretty good friends I thought I would let you all know that I lost my anal virginity about 5 years ago.  It was to Dr. Baish here at the hospital.  ;)  He also found three polyps so I am in the 5 year club and have to do the deed again on Tuesday.  This is almost sacreligious to a member of this page.  Today I have to start a liquid diet.  My wife said and not the liquid diet you are thinking neither.  lol  Jello, and all these other juices she bought for me.  I saved the juice from the corned beef and I am going to try that too.  Nectar of beef I call it, and it is great!  Iremember when I started drinking the stuff that is lemon flavored and just a little thicker than water.  I thought this is no big deal at all. Well about 4 hours later I could hardly get my throat muscles to swallow.  This time it is a different mixture that I start drinking on Monday afternoon.  I tell them to knock me out good so I don't even know that I have been violated.  :D:(

Good luck with the bacon LBBG sounds fun.  So Boar you could have had LL pick you up and shuttle you to the store since he is starting a new profession.  At least you drink Brandy out of a plastic bottle so you probably dropped it a few times and it didn't break. Ok I have to get the missus a cup of coffee since she is so serious on trying to fix her computer. I am going to have a huge breakfast since it is my last good meal for two days.   Have a great day and don't worry about me, I will be ok.  It is at 7:30 Tue am in case you want to laugh for me.....

way to go LPS!!!  The beginning of that paragraph on your rear end even threw me for a loop.  It's funny that a lot of my friends are describing this procedure and also my wife was talking about it yesterday.  Funny how all of you are getting old.  Next it's going to be knees and hips and frankly my shoulder hurt last night to wear it kept me up with the throbbing pain.  Frankly I think I have a knot in my neck from typing great stuff for you guys to read.  Maybe a workers comp suit coming to HSO, may have to recruit Smurfy to help since I'm sure he's got the paperwork I need in his briefcase in the back of his truck next to the tarp and shovel he always carries around just in case.  As long as we're at it he can weld my rotisserie on my grill.  I think he said he was going to Monticello this weekend, Medina is close enough.

I got that nap in yesterday and also perused SHO, Rhino's cite.  (let's fix the issue with typing cite Reb)  Then I stalled out with giving free rides to kids that soon enough will cost them due to my Ubering.  I read Boar's issue on casings and that completely buzz killed me wanting to make sausage.  I like making it but always run into some issue along the way since I'm at best and intermediate sausage maker.

Gee, lots of activity this a.m. I feel like a slacker. Wait, I am a slacker at least according to Mrs. Cheviot! :D Chores done, picked up stuff around the yard and tossed a bunch of out of code apples and squash over the fence to the ovines. After reading all this, now I know who I can call for a ride (LL), who's hungover (boar), who has extra sausage casing should you need to borrow some (LBBG), who's doing the anal thing (LPS), and who would like RH to adopt them (all of us so we can visit his neighbors at the nudist colony). Was relieved that bobber apparently finally got out of that shower. Must have a huge water heater. Now he's got some stranger lady supposed to run her fingers through his hair. Hmmm...maybe he isn't out of the shower yet. I'm going to have to watch the internet for any clips of this stuff.

Got Mrs. Cheviot's birthday shopping out of the way. Buster bars, a little ceramic Snoopy container thingy and she said she wanted a new electric frying pan which she would grab on sale later in the week. Also got her a DQ cake that we'll have as dessert for lunch today so I done good.

Another ewe lamb born this a.m. so think it's 33 - 14 now. Waiting on the ewe to possibly have another one. Was kind of acting like it so I stayed home from church to oversee that process. In addition I have to slice up some strawberries into some jello that's also for lunch. Plus getting the burgers made for grilling. Better get on that or I'll get the "What were you doing the whole time I was gone" question. Never a dull moment. ;)
