Good Morning!

Recommended Posts

It's Monday alright. Just taking stock of what needs to be done for the week and as long as no one comes along to screw it up, it's off to a decent start, for a Monday. Some touch up's to finish on writing projects, check on ewes at noon, get food ordered for the "anal meeting", sign some tax papers and we're golden. The drizzly day yesterday followed by clouds and a little more rain this morning make it tough for people to get too fired up about anything. At least it's warm out.

Got a call right out of the chute from a longtime customer who's one of those guys I've always enjoyed. Asks common sense questions so made it a good way to start off the week. The office pest was in and my little fat Swedish buddy ran interference for me by sitting in my office chair. The pest had his grandkid along. While the pest was busy trying to stick his nose into others business the grandkid was running wild elsewhere in the building. Lots of equipment to get hurt on in here but the pest was oblivious to that. He'd likely be the first one to sue though if something happened to the kid. He left suddenly so another reason to celebrate.

Stayed too tacky to plant anything yesterday so keeping my powder dry so to speak until it's fit. I'm not ready to get in full garden mode just yet. Have several bluebird houses to clean out, replace or repair in addition to the clean out on the wood duck houses. That can be done anytime, muddy or not. If the garden patch dries up today, may have to stab in a few radishes tonight, maybe some lettuce and whatever else I might have leftover from last year. Got another batch of lambs and ewes moved yesterday so chores are becoming less of a chore. Lots of leftovers too so I shouldn't be tied down in the kitchen. Unless Mrs. Cheviot is one of those bondage moods of course. I can still out run her! ;)

All the Sheep pics remind of a great joke!

What's the difference between Mick Jagger and a Scottish Sheep Herder?

Mick Jagger says "Hey You, Get off of my Cloud!" and a Scottish Sheep Herder says "Hey McCloud, Get off of my Ewe!"

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

That dark mama sheep isn't what I imagined of a ewe in my cartoon bubble of sheep knowledge I've accumulated lately.  Sheep are supposed to be white and I think everyone knows that.  I feel like a sheep racist even typing that.

I guess the term black sheep makes sense to me now.  I'm against black sheep.  Baaaaad.

That ewe's head is too small for her body too and her eyes look like she's mad.  What's her name?  I suppose she's just a number and I'd ask for her number but that sounds weird.

HIYA gents or good morning to some of you, chemo day yesterday so that means I have been up all night. Spent the time catching up on TV shows and shredding tobacco. Not waiting on some tobacco leaf to get hydrated so I can roll a few cigars. Torn between making myself some breakfast or eating left over potato pancakes for supper. I do know that the wife is not going to take kindly if I wake here up here at 6 in the morning to cook !

Today is ACT testing day for the kids and I was asked to make breakfast.  I usually avoid the morning crowd at our house and the daughter showed why.  Her ACT test is just a practice and she's acting like she's taking a test to become the Surgeon General.  Meanwhile my son is taking the real ACT and he is cool as a cucumber.  Somehow I'm equating him playing sports with being able to handle some pressure in life.

Mrs LL likes this morning time with the kids and I think it's because she comes from a long line of martyr wannabes.  As the kids left she gave a long list of suggestions that sounded like a machine gun attack.  This is an awful way to start the day.

I had a dream that something really bad was going to happen in society today so I spent a few minutes this morning praying that nothing bad happened in society today.  The baseball player Mike Trout was in my dream so that made it weird enough that I'm not too concerned.

Finally I'm 100% tired of the Republican party over analysis.

Got the day off today to go to the dentist.  The wife is herding me towards the shower so have to make this quick.  The dentist is a woman and is pretty hot so not so bad going.  We both go, the wife and I that is.  Then we have lunch afterwards and maybe some grocery shopping.  Suppose to rain/snow here for the next 3 days.  No open water yet on the river but real close.  Maybe later today or tomorrow I should see a little channel in the middle.  Ok gotta go.  See ya later, Take it easy Bobby.  You to Del..:D

Ok back at home.  Nice and warm by the pellet stove in the front room.  It is 45 outside but windy and rainy so feels colder out.  Dentist thing went well.  I have a dentist story for you.  When I was in high school I had a great buddy and he went to the Dentist that his mom and sister went to.  His older brother and dad went to a different Dentist in Sioux Falls.  (the nearby big town)  Well when he turned 16 his dad said you can come to my Dentist with me now.  Well what gives with that?  His dad's Dentist had very hot babes working for him as Dental Assistants.  As they worked on your teeth they would by accident of course ;) poke him in the shoulder with a body part and smile.  They never missed an appt. Not like that where I go.  But still nice gals.

Just checked and there is open water about 3.8 miles from me.  Vidas Landing is wide open except for about 5' of shore ice.  Noone is there.  I am surprised.  That usually means a full parking lot and a line of trucks a half mile long.  Will be a circus this next weekend.

I am going to make spaghetti tonight as my close personal friend Boar has inspired me with his accomplishment....   Thanks Jeff.  I bought some italian ground pork today for it.  And lots of mushrooms and sweet onions.  Not a huge batch though.  a 2 day supply due to St. Pats on Thursday which is of course corned beef, cabbage, and onions day.  With ruebens the next day.  going to be a great week.

Man, for busy! After getting the newspaper article done, a newsletter completed and sent, payroll done and bills paid, that's enough. Time for a break! Mrs. Cheviot is home today so at least I don't need to check for newbies. Weather has been ugly although we skated on much of the earlier forecast precip. Humidity is high so keeping the barns dry is a must.

Black sheep are known as "natural colored" in more politically correct circles. I feel weird about that as it reminds me of some women who didn't shave. The gene for dark colored wool is recessive although when sheep were first domesticated, they were predominantly "natural colored". The white color was selected for so that it would take dyes better. A very basic, simple explanation of the genetics:

  http://www.blackandcolouredsheep.com.au/genes.html

That ewe is #1001. Not positive of her name but I'm betting if I was, it would probably touch off a BLM protest given our past history for naming those "natural colored" ewes. Smaller headed lambs are preferable as it makes the lambing process go much easier. A big old blockhead like a Hampshire can get stuck in the birth canal more readily. Ain't no one happy when that happens. As far as their eyes, Cheviots are supposed to have those "bug eyes". It makes them unique and helped them to see better to avoid danger when tooling around the Cheviot Hills, the area bordering England and Scotland. The "natural colored" Cheviots are in particular unusual and occur infrequently. They are extra flighty and seem to have additional gears that the white animals seldom have. We started getting some at our place after we purchased a ram from some friends in WI about 10 years ago. Apparently he carried the recessive gene as did some of our ewes. When a heterozygous white ram and ewe are bred, theoretically anyway the odds are 1 in 4 that "natural colored" offspring will result. They are always popular with people who stop to visit so they get picked up and held more than any of the of the lambs.

pretty logical stuff to add to my sheep repertoire of knowledge.  White wool dyes better, small heads come out easier, and big eyes to see better.  Sometimes I too use some language around my knife eater dog that could get me in hot water.  No excuse for it but I prefer to keep the racist remarks between her and I and she doesn't ever complain about it.  Then again she ate a new hat of mine today so maybe she cares more than she ever verbalizes.

This weather doesn't hurt my bones but man does it make me tired.  I'm also blaming this time change baloney.  What a crock.  We trade sundown at 450pm in December for 9pm in the Summer as though that makes sense.  Only thing it's good for is golfing after work in the Summer.

These geese on my pond in backyard aren't helping the sleep either.  They wake up so early like they have something to do.  Geese are pretty worthless frankly.  I may shoot a few extras this Fall to get even with them.
