Good Morning!

the ewes are pretty close to a 19 hand frankly.

Since I'm an amateur statistician I know that even though it's 15-2, every birth going forward is still 50/50 so I'm guessing the ramalambas will win by 13 or so by the end.  If we're (suddenly its "we" Dotch) 1/3 of the way through I'm guessing it will end up 33-19 or so.  Winner gets Del's sous vide machine!!!  Second place is RH's Jayco. Third place is an old Dell computer.

Yup good morning.  Just did our walk with Sammy and my wife.  Now I am trying to type and Bob the cat is sitting on my mouse making things a challenge.  A little cooler out this morning but felt good to get out for the walk.  We don't do it if it is real cold and windy. Back to work after the long weekend.  Since this is the cooking thread I will mention that I made an awesome Ham and Bean soup yesterday.  I load it up with carrotts and celery since I bought a pkg of each just for the soup and don't want it to just sit in the fridge.  I did save some for snacks at work too.   I too want to watch the second season of Fargo.  The first season with Billy Bob Thorton was great.  I can't help but smile just thinking of him.  I like all of his shows. Too bad he isn't in season two but I heard it is still pretty good.  Thanks for the reminder Bobby.  Well see ya all later and have a good one.

That is an old post that just popped up.  ???  Seven above here this morning.  We had the Old Fasioned Ring Bologna and the steamed cabbage last night.  Excellent.  I even liked it better than the patties I made out of it on stuffing day.  Great stuff.  Todays direction of thought is a pup in the future.  We put Willy down a few months ago.  As you know we ended up with a cat for Sammy's new companion instead of a dog from the pound in I Falls.  I am thinking I would like another lab type of dog so Sammy can help train it.  I don't duck hunt anymore so I want a lazy lab.   lol  No high energy field trial dog.  Would like a nice looking dog that just wants to be in boats go for walks and hang around with us on our acreage.  My brother has 2 dogs that are 8 years old like Sammy and he is thinking pup too.  He might get a lab or a Griffon.  He had one of them before and it was a rel nice dog.  Any ideas welcome.  Well have a nice day guys.  It is getting warmer every day.  Bring on spring.

Fargo...I was talking to Direc TV yesterday about trimming the bill down a bit.  I was mostly trolling for a deal and one option was getting rid of some package we had.  48 useless channels but the package also included the golf channel and FX channel Fargo is on so I had to keep that package.

I want to start the day reminding everyone that Wells Fargo has terrible service.  Literally was told by a friend who works there that they provide service that is just bad enough that you don't leave.   Pretty accurate.

On a better note I fell asleep not thinking of lambs but of Belle and her improved behavior.  Actually she has only changed because I got my head out of my rear and got her more exercise and tightened the rules.  She's responding and we have more work to do on a few fronts.  We're both probably happier for it.

I think I'm going to go pick up another 97 cent pork butt today.  I can't think of a better deal out there right now.  I could smoke a pork butt and buy $10 worth of buns and feed 20 people.  I think that's less than a buck per person.  It also makes me feel good to go into a store and just buy the pork butt and nothing else.  Makes me feel like I'm legally stealing from them.

I gotta tell my pup story.  Back when we were first married we had a lab and a buddy of mine bought a lab from the same litter.  He couldn't watch her for a job situation so we took her for about a year, small lab named Belle.  She was awesome but eventually he took her back.

Two Summers ago we were called because a buddy of mine bought a pup and after two weeks the wife said to get rid of it.  He paid a lot for her.  He called me first and said if I took it he wouldn't charge me a dime.  I said no, we already have two.  Buddy's wife called my wife, she said no.  His kid called my son and now the kids were badgering me, I still said no.

A few days went by and we were bored and I mentioned going over to see the pup.  I will skip the rest of the story since we all know what happened.  We named her Belle and unlike you may have read she is my favorite by far.  I think you can say that about dogs.

The other day my daughter asked me if it bugged me that Belle follows me everywhere and I told her it bugs me for sure but it would bug me more if she didn't

Finally, I get a chance to tap on the keys for a minute. Lots of visitors today and not much of it business, mostly monkey business. Seeing all the dog comments, Ruby and Fudgie had a bit of a dust up this morning. We were going in and out of the lambing barn with feed pans and water buckets and they started tangling over a sheep turd! If I raise my voice they pretty much cease and desist so it was short lived. However I was impressed that Fudgie still had it in her, approaching 14 years old. Ruby is kind of a weenie around cats but she's not too keen on other dogs messing with "her" property. Solid muscle and fast too so stopping those tiffs before they escalate is imperative. Fudgie is a grump and not exactly Miss Congeniality around strangers. Living around an elderly lady who lives alone most of your life can do that to a dog but she's still one heck of a good gate watcher. Will be missed when she decides to call it quits.

No news is good news in the lambing barn sometimes. Was 6 above this morning but the body heat from 36 adult critters keeps it above freezing in a 16' x 28' chicken coop. Was a little concerned overnight about the lamb born yesterday as he's a pipsqueak. Sometimes those are more prone to getting chilled under the circumstances. He has the program figured out though so as long as his mom is milking like she is, he'll be fine. Should be getting our lamb from the locker plant either today or tomorrow. Nice to get a days heads up so we can make room for it. Some of it will be going direct to a customer so it won't be a huge issue. Had them grind the front shoulders into burger this time so we shouldn't blow through that quite so fast. Still plenty of other stuff for shish kabob, etc. The burger is handy and quick, given our schedules. It is bomb! :D

Planning my anal meeting and in the process of writing a newsletter/invite. Have more stuff to proof as well for the magazine articles so fun never stops. Caio!

Hey Dotch

you may want to get on the edit button before it expires.  I believe you meant to type "planning my ANNUAL meeting and in the process of writing a newsletter/invite" and you missed an N and an U in there and it looks like some sort of secret sheep herders convention thing we don't want to know about. :)

Ya I cry every time.  Completely unexpected the first time.  (4 labs ago)  Just all of the sudden burst into crying and then my vet did too.  I had made him come out to the parking lot to do the deed in the back of my truck.  There we both were hugging and crying.  He sent me a real nice letter a few days later.  Great guy!  Dr. Rose in Perham.

Dotch, please don't tell us the details of your "anal" meeting or party or whatever it is.  AND absolutely no pictures.  I have a terrible vision in my head now.

RH, touching story.  Last night I said that I may start looking for a pup and my wife first said are you sure.  Then I said who is going to go fishing with me.  (she does sometimes)  She said yup Sammy will help you train it too.  Sammy has never chewed anything up and I can't even remember house training him since Willy (previous lab) just took him under his wing and showed him the program.  In no hurry but still I am looking.

Good one too LL, you softy.....

putting the hound down is a tough call.  We had a golden named Jenny and we were going to bring her to the cabin vet and do it and bury her next to our other dog Jake.  She got real sick on a Saturday and we were at home though.  She was just laying there on the sidewalk and it was summer.  I was hoping she'd make it til Monday and I was going to bring her up north.  She died in her sleep Sunday night though and when I went downstairs at 5 am she was stiff.  It was the first day of school so I brought her outside and put her in the back of the truck so the kids didn't have to see her.  Knocked a few pictures off of the wall in the hallway since her legs were sticking out, she didn't die in the best position.

Reminded me an elk guide that told me one time he had to go out and find a guy and he found him dead.  Apparently the cowboy movies where the dead guy is on the back of the horse doesn't happen when you die laying down. The body kind of is on the horses back in a complete horizontal position.  So if you ever are dying in the mountains the guy said to do the next guy a favor and lay on your stomach over a log so you are a convenient shape to be put on a horse.

I think the rigor relaxes after awhile.   So just sit around for a day or so and you are good to go.

I woke up at 430am.  I sleep on my back like a corpse and my glasses were still on and Belle was joined to my left hip with a perfect amount of lean into me.  I've had to adjust the sleep number with her on my side of the bed so she's comfortable.  Seems to be working for both of us.  It's hard because she sleeps on her side or tummy and I want her to get a restful sleep.  She's a 70 and I'm a 35.

I don't get up this early but I made the mistake of grabbing my phone and bringing it in when I had to relieve myself.  I read an email from our bookkeeper.  We hired a "bookkeeper" to do some tasks for our business a few years ago.  She goes in and checks things out, reconciles a few things and keeps my CPA happy...at least that was the plan.  Recently I noticed an inventory adjustment of $3,976,000,000.00 or so...thats 3.9 billion.  It may have bothered me more if it was 39 thousand frankly but eventually I had to dig into what she had done.  Long story short is that she leaves me notes on anything unusual but didn't mention a thing about our billion dollar issue.  I didn't get a response and decided a new person may be better.

I emailed her and asked for her to refund the balance owed to us.  We pay her $XXX whenever she has used up the previous dollar amount.  The email that kept me up was this reply, "its our Company Policy to not refund payments."   I guess our company policy is that we shouldn't prepay any vendor out of the goodness of our heart because they ask nicely.  She's the owner and has a handful of others working for her.  I don't know if company policy is much of a good answer.  I bet Dotch has a company policy that lambs don't sleep in the house but last week the policy had to be broken, right Dotch?  She did offer that we could use the hours left for some work needed to be done.  I hope she can fix the $3.9 billion dollar mistake in less than the 8 hours we have as a credit.

Wayzata vs Burnsville today at 1pm.  My son was in bed at 9pm last night getting ready for a big day in St Paul today.  I'm happy for both my kids, these state tournaments make some great times and great memories down the road.
