Popular Post ThunderLund78
Drinking my coffee at my kitchen table, normally I'd be at work by now. Had to take today off but not for a fun reason. Meeting a buddy and heading to SPAM-town for the funeral of a friend's father. Not completely unexpected as he'd been having heart issues lately (almost died about 12 years ago from a major cardiac arrest). He was scheduled for some procedures to help him, but last week he had a major episode and died before they could get him into surgery. Going to a lot more of these lately. Was talking to my buddy and we determined that this is the next series of "gathering events" in our life. 10-15 years ago it was a friend's wedding about every other weekend, now the only time we get to see each there with our busy schedules are funerals for the parents of friends. Eventually it will be our own. Man, getting older sucks. The one positive is that you DO get to catch up with old friends and it often leads you to re-prioritze your thinking and make the time for the people you should be spending more time with. I do look forward to seeing some great people, today. Edited February 15, 2016 by ThunderLund78 reinhard1, leechlake, Dotch and 2 others
Popular Post LindellProStaf
Good morning Boys. Happy Presidents Day. I just remembered my coffee is in the microwave. Be right back. There, that's better. Put a shot of honey in it too. Just right. Good posts this morning as usual. Good for you LL. It is great how some people are such good impressions on us. I guess we can all improve ourselves. AND ya it does suck getting old. I looked forward to retirement my whole life. I am 3 years away and as we all know time flies. Now it kind of bothers me that I am almost 62. I feel like I am 40, well maybe in my 40's. lol Then I look in the mirror and remember where I am at on the age scale. The union I am in has a great Health Dynamics physical that I do once a year. Takes about 1/2 day to get it all done. I do pay more attention now to the results. I am trying a little harder to eat healthier and help my body to last longer. I am by no ways going overboard just paying more attention and I am seeing that it does help. I am trying to eat breads that have nuts and oats and stuff in them. I eat 2 sandwichs a day. One at 10 and one around noon. Sometimes it is while I am driving and sometimes at the shop. If I know I am going to be at the shop I can bring something else and heat up in the microwave, which is a treat over a sandwich. So that is this years challenge, to not eat white bread as much. Was thinking of going fishing on the lake but decided to make Ice Rigs and build up our stock for next year. The orders are winding down now but will still send some out I am sure. Had a great year again. Fun part time at home business for us. I did finally make that ring bologna that RH , our online mentor influenced me to make. Thanks Reiny. I did half of a 25 lb batch. Had patties from leftover for breakfast with eggs. Pretty darn good. I will try to add pics when they arrive to my email. We ended up with 10 rings. They are big rings, about 1 1/2 lbs ea. My scale is one of those big white porcelain ones the butchershops and grocery stores used to use. That is what I weigh my pkgs for shipping on. Reminds me of my Grandmas little country store when I use it. Very cool tool. Well see ya later boys. Time to get something done. Good to hear from you and I will check in later too. bobberineyes, RebelSS, smurfy and 3 others

Dotch
Wow some pretty deep and philosophical posts for a Monday morning. Tough acts to follow but will attempt to annoy the bejeepers out of you anyway. Things just keep rolling along. Chores done, breakfast consumed and coffee in the system. Got to see my pet pheasants and Ruby growled at them during breakfast. We'll have to sedate her tonight as she comes unglued when the Westminster dog show is on. She got warmed up Saturday night on the agility trials so can't wait to see the Border Collie sensual overload kick into gear. Did some preemptive office work on Friday so just need to put the finishing touches on it today. My little fat grumpy Swedish buddy the carpenter checked in and he's happy, something that's a rare occurrence. The floor heat has kicked in in his little construction project so now his feet stay warm while he barks out orders to his employees and leaves. At least the temps have warmed up so it isn't quite so miserable. The office pest remains at large. We suspect he's still in Ohio due to his "nose problem" so we thank the good residents of that state for taking one for the team. Otherwise a quiet day with no post office or government offices open. There is school today here as a result of the snow days accumulating. The health thing, whether it's food or alcohol related is a concern of mine. Always been a good eater. My mother-in-law liked to say when I'd show up for the holidays, "Boy, for a little guy he can really pack it away". I find I need to back away from the table a little more quickly and eat smaller portions. Not easy to do when you grew up with a lot of physical activity and it's becoming less, especially when there's an abundance of good tasting stuff to eat. I think it's also ingrained as a part of many people's upbringing especially those whose parents grew up during The Depression that you don't waste food. I did have to laugh last year though as after I had my blood work done they told me I was doing great, levels were all down, keep up the good work, etc. This after a several week juniper berry extract fueled tear during lambing season. My conclusion: I must not have been drinking enough ! Jussst kidding. A couple after chores if I'm in the mood and that's usually it. Rarely do I drink to excess anymore and when/if I do, it's special occasion related. I had many close calls over the years and consider myself lucky that matters didn't turn out worse. Many times now if we're out, I will be the DD. It's simply not worth the risk and I don't miss the nasty hangovers. Trying to keep Mrs. Cheviot from pawing me becomes my biggest concern. reinhard1, smurfy, leechlake and 1 other
leechlake
Holy Cow!!! We just had a major ta doo here. 6 deer were walking on the street right in front of my house. They were heading in the direction behind my house and they probably would have stayed there all day in the grass and cattails but the dogs spooked em. I even grabbed my phone and videotaped them standing around figuring out where to go. Car came and they ran off and I realized I didn't press "play"on my phone until the end so I got a video of deer running and my feet. Being a pro deer hunter I was looking for blood on the heads from lost head gear but the larger deer seemed to all be does. Story of my deer hunting life. How come in college the bar was 90% guys and out deer hunting 90% of the deer are does? Dotch, reinhard1 and LindellProStaf

SwivelDigger
Morning guys. Brought the kids in to dentist for their check-ups, all good. Back at home now, going to start working on a sign for up at the cabin. Wife thinks we need one in the yard to announce to the world who we are. I'm thinking if they know us, they know where we're at and if they don't they don't need to know. Enriched the 12 and 14 year old daughters lives last night by bringing them to the AC/DC concert. I'm glad they both liked it.....hopefully it will steer them away from dump. For a bunch of old guys they put on a good show. Dump is RAP in case your wondering Edited February 15, 2016 by SwivelDigger reinhard1 and LindellProStaf

We bought our place from someone we knew and I left the sign up with their name on it that's about halfway up the driveway in a nice spot you can turn around in. It's fallen down a few times and I go put it back up when that's happened. Wife asks why I do it and I tell her "out of respect". Figure that people have attempted to come over, seen the sign, and turned around quite a few times. My friends know where it is so I'm covered with them. You don't need a pest around when you've got fishing to do on a weekend that is short enough already. leechlake
The cabin sign and good morning thing got me thinking to an old true story. Back when I was little my folks cabin didn't have indoor plumbing, just an outhouse. Really a cool piece of land, 1/2 mile driveway that winds through the woods and the cabin is on a point between two small lakes. Nobody else around back then, now there are 3 cabins on the lake. My dad woke up and headed to the outhouse and sat down and had propped the door open. He sat there and looked out and saw a car parked with a tent next to it. The way he told the story was that he was almost confused with what he saw it was so weird. He went over and "knocked" on the tent door and the guy came out and acted like he was at a campground. Not a worry in the world, no concern at all. Dad asked why he was there and he told him ,"we've been coming here for years. Real nice place and the fishing is always good." After a few choice words the guy had his tent packed in record time and we never saw him again. Pretty sure the gate that is still there was put up soon there after. RebelSS
Just make sure if you have a sign with your name on it, you don't also have a public listed phone number. Bad guys see the name, look up number, call..."No one there, let's break in"..... LindellProStaf

reinhard1
Lindell, glad to see the ring bologna turned out good. Really nice color on those rings also. I'll be having my diet version of our valentine dinner tonight. One big porterhouse and roasted vegies minus potatoes. Having the grandkids all weekend prevented us from any kind of dinner I'm used to making anyway. When they are here we pay full attention to them. So salads was on the menu while watching them scarf down spaghetti chips ect. Going to go fishing in the next day or two. Temps are really nice. good luck. leechlake, Dotch and LindellProStaf
Juneau4
Went to bed just a short time ago and now the cat decides its time to play. It is past Midnight so it's a New Day and it's morning. Whats it like in my house? My wife is sound asleep (snoring) which she says she never does and the cat is chasing a tennis ball or a toy mouse up and down the steps to the basement. Knocks whatever down the steps and then carries it back up just to do it again. May as well turn this thing off and go dream about an afternoon nap. Snowing hard here now, huge flakes, real pretty. Good night and Good morning --Stay positive. Dotch keep that Ram in front of you, when shearing the ewes. Dotch and reinhard1
Bobby Bass
Good morning, little after 2 and am still up and I expect will be for several more hours. Thank god for HULU as I am now saving my shows that I would watch during the week to watch on Monday nights/Tuesday mornings. May have to swing over to Netflix and start binge watching some shows. I have the second season of Fargo in my sights. Anyone else have any suggestions for watching? Dotch, LindellProStaf and reinhard1
SwivelDigger
Good morning. Been up for about an hour. Chaperoning the school ski trip today. Should be a good time. Hopefully no hospital trips will be needed. The youngest daughter is a pretty good skier, hopefully I'm not the one needing the hospital! Hope everyone has a good day. reinhard1 and Dotch
LindellProStaf
Yup good morning. Just did our walk with Sammy and my wife. Now I am trying to type and Bob the cat is sitting on my mouse making things a challenge. A little cooler out this morning but felt good to get out for the walk. We don't do it if it is real cold and windy. Back to work after the long weekend. Since this is the cooking thread I will mention that I made an awesome Ham and Bean soup yesterday. I load it up with carrotts and celery since I bought a pkg of each just for the soup and don't want it to just sit in the fridge. I did save some for snacks at work too. I too want to watch the second season of Fargo. The first season with Billy Bob Thorton was great. I can't help but smile just thinking of him. I like all of his shows. Too bad he isn't in season two but I heard it is still pretty good. Thanks for the reminder Bobby. Well see ya all later and have a good one. leechlake
"Foot fault!!!" I woke up this morning and had freshly finished a dream where the team bowling championship I was watching at the bowling alley had come down to the last guy and last ball and the other team called a foot fault on him. Needless to say it was becoming very heated at the alley when I woke up. I don't bowl btw, just a dream, kind of weird. The house is very quite at 2am isn't it Bobby? If I was trying to sleep I think I'd watch a re-run of the Masters, if that isn't in the cards I caught some glimpses of Breaking Bad and I'd suggest that. My son says it's great. I'm afraid to even type this but I think I've figured out a little thing about being married aka dealing with the wife. Don't worry I'm not saying I've got it all figured out but just a little thing that I'm going to keep working on. When it fails I will let you all know though. Sometimes you figure things out by ruling things out rather than finding the solution I've got to plow the hockey rink that doesn't seem to get used this time of the year so when everything melts it's usable for anyone that wants to get out there. I purposely leave snow on it when it isn't going to be used for a real reason other than laziness. Dotch, reinhard1 and LindellProStaf
RebelSS
Good morning, I'm up...I think. 30*, gray and slight foggy/misty here. Sure can tell it's warm out. There's a herd (a nutbunch ?) of squirrels running, jumping, zooming, and chasing on top of my fence to the tree, the deck, the house. Must be in pursuit of that elusive nut. Crows are doing their CACAWCAW. There's a Bluejay screaming obscenities back at the crow. No plans for the day. Goof off day.Nice to have those now. Still not used to not going 100 MPH all day long, that's the way I rolled. Up at 4:45 am; at work by 5:30 to read reports and get gear on. On duty at 6:00 am until 6:00 PM. Home by 6:30 or so most of the time, Change clothes, hop on bike and pedal fast for 12 miles. Back home, shower, beer time. later, dinner, then bed. Worked every other weekend, too. Go, go, go. Took quite a while to get "de-programmed" from that. Constantly checking watch, which you learned to do on the job. Finally got over that....but it took a while. The cuckoo, mantel, and grandfather wall clocks bonging, chiming, and going *CUCKOO* tell me all I need to know now. The "I'm sick of eggs and sausage for breakfast" has hit full force. I have some noatmeal (as I called it when a kid) cinnamon raisin bread for toast, and a big nanner sitting there for this morning. Could be interesting. I did make deviled eggs Sunday....hmmmm... Have a good day guys. Edited February 16, 2016 by RebelSS LindellProStaf, Dotch and reinhard1

Popular Post reinhard1
Good morning. Off the the post Office to mail the sausage to the 4 winners of the football games. Tougher now trying to plan these diet meals. Meat and vegies or meat and salads. Not a bad mix but I do like the variety options I had just a week ago. I can loose weight pretty fast, especially if I cut out the brewskies. One week and no beer. What was hard though is to stand in front of the grill and not have a cold one nearby. I quit the hard stuff about 20 years ago except I do take a cocktail during deer camp. My son-in law made these awesome bloody mary's at deer camp last season. I had two of them and would have had another but the mix ran out between all of us enjoying them. Nice and spicy and full of flavor. But I do like a beer now and then. Well off to the post office and then to the liquor store. No, not to get some beer, but to get my mother-in law some Manechevitz grape wine. She loves that stuff for a night cap still at 90. good luck. Boar, LindellProStaf, Dotch and 2 others
