Camping by Duluth

Hey there,

any advice on quiet spots to camp up by Duluth?  Looking to go next weekend and avoid a crowd as much as possible.  Anywhere within an hour of Duluth.  just looking for a nice campsite for tent camping.

Opinions appreciated.

Lambs is a spot we have camped at quite a few times for 25 years.  a little more than an hour north. going to a campsite with the pop up on the Knife River this holiday. last moment idea so everything was booked up there for the days we wanted. weekend before labor day you should have quite a few options. if you stay at Lambs, walk the whole area and write down the sites you really like,  helps for the following year. :)

At just about an hour away, Finland and Eckbeck on HWY 1 are fairly decent.  Gooseberry is nice but can get a little busy.

Does it have to be on the North Shore? The Whiteface Reservoir and Cadotte Lake Campgrounds north of Duluth are pretty nice as well.

Thank you everyone for the input.  I looked into all of the listed places, and they are all booked or too close to the next spot on a map.  We ended up booking down by New Ulm, which is not even close to Duluth, but it will be entertaining for my little kids who haven't camped before.  Got into a rustic spot, so they will have a little more of a camping experience.  That, and it is an hour from home.

Duluth, next time with a better planning in place.

Lambs looks pretty cool, I might have to give that one a shot next year.

I hope you and the kids have fun! Are you staying at Flandrau?

Well, at least you wouldn't have any chance of Bear visits down there! :D
