muskielaw
So yesterday a couple of buddies and I woke up at 3 am (was actually 2am with time change:() and drove all the way to Duluth to try for some salmon and lake trout on superior. Non of us had ever done this before. Anyway we get there and there are hundreds of houses lined up in about 40-50 feet of water looking for the herring and salmon. We set up at least 50 feet from the closest house, which is much closer then I ever set up to anyone but we were farther away from the houses than anyone else. Well I turn my Marcum on to start fishing and a guy comes out of his house just screaming at us to turn off my flasher because it was interfering with his!! I told him to relax as we just set up and we would have to play with IR. He blew a gasket and demanded that I turn off my Marcum. Normally I would have told him to pound sand as it is not my fault his machine didn't work but instead I just took one of my buddies vexlars as they were fishing in the same house and could get away with one.So was I in the wrong here? Believe me I did not want to fish that close to anyone but given the number of people on the lake it was unavoidable at that depth. Is it my fault that I have a Marcum and he has a vexlar? I was just amazed at how [PoorWordUsage] this guy got because his Vexlar had too much interference. I have to admit that if it was going to be between him or I not fishing without a flasher it would have been him. I should also add that if I would have moved it would have cause the same problem with someone else. What is a guy to do in this situation if they don't have the option of switching flashers?Muskielaw
perchking
Thats funny, maybe they should have a "Marcum's" only area or a sign for vexi users stating "We are not responsible for any interference if you buy a inferior product"Sorry this one is easy to stir the pot. CaptainMusky
Must be some awfully hard bottom there huh?Kind of funny. If you an LX5 you could have switched to the narrower beam and that might have reduced a lot of the interference he was getting, but if you are like me with an LX3 you don't have that option. You should have told him he was interfering with your ability to catch fish because he was chewing you out for fishing.I would think the coverage area at that depth would be around 20 feet so that is a bit surprising he was having such a hard time with you 50 feet away. NoWiser
I was up there chasing salmon too, yesterday, and one of the guys I was with had a Marcum. It interfered pretty bad with our Vexilars but it didn't matter much because there were so many fish down there that you couldn't see your lure anyways. We didn't have problems with anyone else because we stayed a long ways away from everyone. I think we had better fishing because of it, too.As a Vexilar owner I hate Marcums because of the interference. But, I don't blame anyone who uses them. I wouldn't be happy if someone set up near me and all of a sudden I couldn't use my flasher, though. Especially if I was set up before them. fisherman-andy
This is a joke right? LOL... The excuses these Vexilar owners use when they can't catch a fish at 50ft away from a Marcum.
BriGuy88
It would seem to me that some of these users need to figure out how to use their electronics. I sat in a hub house a couple of weeks ago with 4 of my buddies fishing just a few feet from each other. I was using my Marcum LX7 and all of my buddies were using their Vexilars, ranging from an FL8 to FL18s. We were all fishing just fine together with a few tweaks of the IR. Not rocket science, just a little patience. Some people must find it hard to bend over to push an IR button.
bturck
I have Marcums and VEXI'S ( 2 of each) and have no problem that IR can't fix. I also have started running my transducer in the hole and never below the ice. This is recommended by Marcum; less fish getting in the ducer line as well.Personally woukd not have turned my unit off. IR should have fixed the interference, and 50' even though uncomfortable to you is well outside the 10' law

monstermoose78
I find this crazy because I have fished in flip over with a friend using his marcum and me using my vexilar. Sorry you had to deal with someone like that.
eyeguy 54
I make Adam B fish on the other side of the lake when he brings his clearwater classic !! lol
hamms-scooter
You handled that well. I would have told him to go back in his shanty and put a bobber on if he couldn't figure it out. My Marcum plays just fine with my buddies vexilars never a problem.
