bucketmouth64
When does my phone get charged for data usage when most of the time I'm conected to my wifi? My wife checked our usage and I'm way high. The only things I use that may use data is iheart radio and videos. I thought that when you're connected to wifi no data usage is charged. Also, what things use data when not connected to wifi?
ChuckN
My wife's iphone used up a ton of data in just a few days. There's issues with icloud so I disabled the account. It's fine now. Verizon was a great help to fix the issue.Your phone should not use any plan data when connected to wi-fi.
upnorth
Streaming audio and video take up a lot of data.
ozzie
there is a option in the Iphones atleast where you can set your phone to only use data when connected to WIFI. Good thing to use with kids or if you are downloading or streaming and in areas where WIFI may go in and out.
TigerBlood
HA! I just went through this exact same thing with AT&T. Part of me thinks it's a scam. When you call them, they will try to upgrade you to a higher data plan. All I really wanted to know was the same as you - where/when is the data happening? The short answer is there are some things that use data all the time. For example - I think if you get an email and (depending on your settings)are not connected to WI-FI, it will use data. I believe there are several other similar type of things you may have to specifically turn off in your settings. You should be able to request specific usage reports from your carrier which would show dates/time/data use.At the end of the day, I did end up just upgrading so I didn't have to worry about it anymore. It's just a convenience thing for me and if you are not careful, it can cost you more in the long run with extra usage fees.
DrJuice1980
If you have apps open and leave the wifi area for a roaming area, they are still running and will eat up that data. I make sure to always close the app completely, my usage is down significantly.
bucketmouth64
I''ve been more diligent in end tasking to make sure things are cloed. This has reduced my battery usage and hopefully my data usage when out of my wifi. It's ironic that my tablet doesn't show much usage when I've used my navionics on the lake. At first I thought for sure the navionics was the culprit in our data usage.

Some web pages, on the other hand, automatically push a refresh every so often, like every 5 minutes or so.
