Motion sickness meds?

Dramamine, Scopolamine patch, ginger pills, and/or those accupressure wrist bands. Take dramamine BEFORE you get seasick. after is too late. Scop patch requires prescription.

The wrist bands actually work.

What works best for you and won't put you to sleep takes personal testing since people react differently.

I use the non-drowsy Dramamine(sp?) and that works for me. This coming from a guy who cant watch a merry go round without getting sick. When I fished lake Michigan a few years back my doc recommended to start taking it a few days before the first trip out.

Dramamine! Ginger is a home remedy that people swear by as well. I got sea sick while ocean fishing off of Maui one time as I didn't think I ever would have...spending a lot of time out in the ocean before. It was by far the worse experience I ever had. Non stop puking and dry heaving for 8 hours only to top it off with the deck hand missing my huge fish with the gaff and hitting my line to send the fish free...that after a good hour battle while I was green in the face.

What is the best medication to prevent motion sickness? I always get sick on the Great Lakes and ocean frown

I feel your pain. I get motion sick bad on the ocean and it doesn't even have to be rough. I have tried over the counter dramamine and it doesn't work for me. I would recommend a trip to the Dr. and see what he recommends if you have a serious issue with it.

The last cruise I went on had some major wind for the first two days. The kind of big slow rollers that have you going up or down 24/7. I used a combination of the ear patch, bracelet, and dramamine. It helped quite a bit, but I still had periods of time where I felt like complete garbage, depending on my surroundings.

another thing that helps is to have a full stomach at all times. I learned this the time my ex wife and I (we were still married at the time) went up to her relatives place in Alaska. He was going to be taking me out salmon and halibut fishing out of Homer and Seward when we were there. I wasn't sure at first if I should believe him about having the full stomach and snacking the whole time we were out on the ocean but I took a chance and found out first hand that it does help to keep a full stomach and snack continually while out. I now use this tip when I'm out on any body of water.

I work as a pharmacist and I would have to say that the Transderm-Scop patches will most likely be the most effective, however some insurances won't cover them and they aren't exactly cheap. I usually steer folks to the meclizine OTC (Bonine is an example). If you are going to use it often, ask the pharmacist if they have any larger bottles behind the counter. The boxes stocked over the counter only have like 8 or 10 tablets but I keep bottles at my pharmacy that have 100 tablets for under $10.

I went sail fish fishing off Cabo many years ago. My ex wife did not make it out of harbor. Had to take her back. I did fine but notice that even to this day that on an elevator, I will get woosie. I did the full stomach and snake thing and was good. Ex did it too and wasted our meal. Good luck.

I'm with Del on this one, when I was in my early teens I would go yearly to Lake Michigan to fish with him and the wrist bands worked for me, I thought they were a hoax even when I was that young but they did the trip for me. Anytime you can avoid medication, oral or tans dermal, I would recommend it, you only have one liver and well two kidneys. This coming from a guy who's living is pushing and giving a lot of medications.

Are the Transderm-Scop patches waterproof? I will be swimming, snorkeling, etc.

My wife has a bottle of meclizine 25mg, any idea how often you can take that? Can you use a patch in combination with it if it doesn't work? Is it the exact same as Bonine?

Lots of questions, but I'm new to this.

Thanks!
