muskie hunter
So here is the deal last year I bought a vexilar double vision and it is annoying that I will turn it on at 7 a.m. run the cammera and flasher constantly and it will die by one o clock what can I do to lengthen the run time? PurpleFloyd
Get a second battery.
JSK76
If you don't want to lug a second battery around you could buy a lithium ion battery but there not cheap about 150.00 or if you fish in a fish house run it of the deep cycle battery. If you turn down the brightness it would save some juice too but what fun is that.
Agronomist_at_IA
Get a new battery with the highest amp and size u can get. I put in a fresh one and it last a long time. If you run both all day you need a 2nd battery.

JSK76
How much longer will a lithuim ion battery last? This is from the new Marcum 10 amp battery"Made in the USA, the 12V Lithium Battery uses an innovative manufacturing technology to provide more battery power of a comparably sized SLA (sealed lead acid) battery at half the weight. Lasting up to 5X longer than comparable SLA batteries, this battery eliminates the additional weight by the traditional of “SLA Brick” of batteries. Operates better at temperatures from -20°F to +120°F than SLA or other lithium batteries."
muskie hunter
I think I will be buying a marcum lithium ion battery then I should e able to fish from 7am to 7 p.m. with electronics all day right?

If you do let me know how it works. I was going to buy one awhile back but it was like $150 for one battery and another $30 for the charger. figured with tax or shipping it would be $200 + So, I just bought a stubby little screw driver for $1.00 and change out the $15 battery if I need to. I have three that I swap out and charge when going on a trip for a few days. It would really suck if a guy bought one only to find out you still need to change out a battery if it didn't make it through the day. pushbutton
Am sure they are nice, but a buck fitty for 3 less pounds(well, guess it would be 6 if having to carry two) and getting through the day seems a little steep......
muskie hunter
My plan to charge it is that I will take and hook it up to the internal battery compartment in the vexilar and charge it through the vexilar's charging port. Also the vexilars battery compartment can only be accesed through un doing 10 screws and only should be opened to change the battery. Hawg
I would wait till someone comes back and says it will do what you want. Cameras are a big current eater, that's why most people on battery power use them sparingly unless you take a battery or three extra. I'm amazed you get 7am-1pm, the new ones must be better on battery consumption, I would never get that out of my old scout.
dan z
Batteries plus has small 12v batteries that have higher amps. √ them out too.

Why not just go a cheaper route and pick up a 12volt ATV or golf cart battery then rig up a system that clips onto the poles of the battery and plugs into the charger plug on the double vision to run it. Then you'd have enough battery for all day & then some and a battery like that could be had for $50 or less. If u put the lithium ion in the double vision, where would you find a charger that would work with the charging plug? They take a special charger. muskie hunter
I tried to wire a way to plug a another battery in from the charging port with a 2nd vexilar battery that I had and it failed the timer on the charger stoped it from working. pushbutton
Yeah, wish the electronic companies would allow for charging with the unit still on. The technology is obviously out there. Any one know why...or in this case ....why not? Can't imagine it is a cost issue......
Putn'am ondaLine
I think I will be buying a marcum lithium ion battery then I should e able to fish from 7am to 7 p.m. with electronics all day right? In theory you should be able to fish 2 full days in a row without recharging with the Lithium battery. The weight difference is amazing and the 2 battery shuffle is a pain, 2 good reasons to switch to a lith battery.

Maybe I'm wrong but a 12volt 10amp battery would hold the same charge and same run times if its a lead acid or a lithium. the 10amp,7amp,9amp are all ratings on how long they will last. So I question if you would get any additional run time out of the battery.

CaptainMusky
One thing not mentioned in reserve capacity. This in conjunction with the Ah rating are really what tell you how long a batter will last. Just going off the Ah doesnt give you the full picture.I picked up a 12Ah battery to run my HDS on the ice. Its a heavy S O B, but it has lasted me two full days without a charge. Agronomist_at_IA
I'd have to talk with a battery expert righ now to be convinced that the ion would last much if any longer then a lead acid if they are both 12v 9AH. With being retailed at $150-200 it should last double, but I think it will be about the same run time. So the only real advantage i can see is the life span last longer and weight is half which isn't really that big a deal to me. I'd rather buy a new $20 battery every 3 years.
