I think that should be amended to read, "Got 15 (declared) championships?"

Without a playoff, we'd be waiting for Jan. 12 to find out if Alabama or Florida State was "the best team in college football."

Limit declares himself the winner of every argument, but that doesn't make it true.

Not my fault you can barely keep your head above water in every one you foolishly enter.

Pro tip: Don't wade into the deep end. smiley95.gif

Those rankings were staged to accommodate the playoff illusion and to result in an Alabama-Florida State "championship" game. No way was an undefeated national champion not going to play in the "championship". Too much money involved. By the NCAA's own objective ranking system, TCU should have been in the top 4. I can't help but wonder if some BMWs didn't find new owners when TCU was excluded.

In your infinite wisdom, who would you have knocked out of the top 4 to include TCU?

Its not your trophy case. You just happened to jump on the best college football programs bandwagon.

Hope that helps! grin

What makes you so sure I jumped on any bandwagon? When do you suppose I jumped on said bandwagon?

I would not have knocked anyone out. I would have followed the criteria (subjective and flawed as it is) designed to select the playoff teams. Season record, conference standings, and strength of schedule were the main criteria.

All finalists and TCU won their conferences; all but undefeated Florida State had 1-loss records. Florida State played 4 ranked teams (#'s 22,5,25 &11)

Alabama played 6 ranked teams, beating #'s 21,16,1,15,16 and losing to #11

Oregon played 4 ranked teams, beating (#'s7,17,7 &16) and lost to unranked AZ

OSU played 3 ranked teams, beating (#'s 8,25,13) and losing to unranked Virginia Tech

TSU played 5 ranked teams, beating #'s 4,15,20 & 7) & losing to #5 Baylor. They also beat Minnesota, one of OSU's ranked wins, but they were unranked when TSU beat them. Minnesota miraculously lost 2 of the last 3 games without dropping from the NCAA # 25 ranking.

Given the NCAA's criteria, TCU should have been selected over both OSU and Oregon...for sure.

Again I say...the only accurate way to award a national championship is to have all conferences represented in the playoffs. If nothing else, this "strength of schedule" and ranking system has been proven to be as accurate as a blindfolded dart thrower.

How would that make it any more accurate? Why would you assume that the 2 best teams could never come out of the same conference?

Good thing I type slowly. In a word...BRACKETS! If the two best teams happen to be in the same conference, luck of the draw that year has the second best team eliminated early. Does the best team still get determined? Yup! Check out the FCS playoff bracket. It's not that complicated and, after this year, is unarguably more accurate and fair than the BCS method. While I knowledge the overall quality of football played in the SEC, the assumption that they perennially have the strongest teams in the country has been proven to be exceptionable after only one playoff year.

I give up!!! As long as you believe the NCAA rankings are infallible, ie, that #1 & #2 are always the country's two best teams, the best team in America will always be crowned champion. Makes a championship game redundant, since the infallible ranking committee has already determined the best team in America. Since the rankings are infallible, Alabama should be crowned as national champion and yesterday's game should be viewed as a scrimmage.

TCU officially goes down as a big 12 co-champion. However, Baylor was unofficially the actual big 12 champion since they beat TCU. So if you were going to go with conference champions, TCU would still have been excluded.

With that being said, knowing what we know now...the rose bowl would have been a lot funner to watch had it been Oregon vs. TCU!

Where did I state that the current system is infallible? No system is infallible. You are the one proposing a different system over the one that has been in place for 15 years because you think that your system is infallible.

The main problem is that the NFL has taken over too may people's brains and they no longer understand the game of football.
