Deadliest Catch: Season 10

I'm thinking the crane broke during the trip, and they just added this for entertainment purposes. This is one of the few shows where they can't add as much fake stuff, so they do whatever they can to compensate for that. But yes, I find it hard to believe they would leave the newbie to "supervise" the offload all by himself. And I also would like to think he wouldn't be stupid enough to go into a wheel house and operate something he knows nothing about.

And, is it bad that I find Edgar brushing his teeth in his coffee way more gross than when they bite the head off the herring?

and why didnt the "fischer" dude just politely say "eliot, the government guys said they needed it moved for the offload and i was the only 1 here, maybe you shouldnt of left a new-bie back"

That plus his little fight seemed so stupid, like be a 40 year old man and talk it out. These people are complete morons up there. Oh and Jake Anderson is such a whiny lil b word.

Elliot is a complete one-who-thinks-I-am-silly. I'm not sure why you would leave the guy you all can't stand as the only guy on the boat. But, as always with Elliot, he takes no responsibility for anything.

Jake is very whiny about Sig's daughter getting to set a string. It's his daughter, of course he's going to baby her. Get over it Jake.

I still check in on the show but a lot of this stuff has to be staged up. The crane breaking at the hands of the new guy.

The steering house electrical problems on the Northwestern, I realize things can come up but I just think too many things happen that are more than just a coincidence.

Pulling all the way for Josh Harris though.

Well, it's curtains for Season 10. frown

Quite a bit happened and it looks like some more changes for next year. I'm looking forward to it.

I was most impressed with Casey last night and handling the C/M at the dock. I don't think there's any way Josh would've made the same call. Just not enough experience running that boat - well any boat for that matter. At least he knows he needs to spend some time wheelhouse and plans to get it done. Casey becoming a Partner makes sense.

What a difference in wages they crews earned! Two boats in the $40k/deckhand range, a $60k and a whopping $88k/deckhand for the Wizard! Like Keith or not, the guy is a GOOD fisherman.

His boat is the biggest in the show by far, I think double the size of some of them, it use to be a WWII fuel tanker. I think that is the biggest factor in why they catch the most every year. Not taking anything away from him, just pointing that out.

My first thought was - what does a guy like Freddy do with $88k?? I don't see him sitting down with a stock broker going through his portfolio...

Take into effect, that's $88,000 BEFORE taxes also! But yeah, based on so many people that have been on this show over the years, the fisherman's lifestyle doesn't make for such a happy home life. It looks like these guys smoke like 3 packs a day too...pretty costly habit. I'm willing to bet health insurance costs an arm and a leg (no pun intended) for a crab fisherman too.

People see these big numbers and just assume they are rolling in the dough. One must remember that these fisherman live mostly in Washington and Alaske and the cost of living is about 30% higher than living in the Midwest. The show also doesn't show all the prep work that is involved before they go fishing and work needed to be done after they are done. I am sure a lot of manintenance is performed by the crew before they get to go home. If one could get a little more info and break down their pay to an hourly wage it probably wouldn't look too appealing.

The wizard guys made $88,000 for several weeks for the opilio season...how much did they make for the king crabs?

Most of these guys are fisherman year round, fishing for cod, salmon, herring, etc. Although I would guess the crab is their highest pay of the season by far.
