I currently have Goodyear Marathons on my trailer, they are 13 years old and have 20-30k on them. I was planning on going with Marathons again but I heard they are made in China now. Is this a issue I need to worry about?

HTB

You don't need to worry in my opinion, but if it concerns you the county where a given tire is made should be marked on the tire.

China can make junk, or they can make fine stuff. Depends on what the customer wants.

Not to worry. All products that come from China undergo stringent US federal guidelines to protect it's citizens from quatily and safety issues! whistle

I guess I'm very critical of any product I buy but what really concerns me is both Tow Master and Good Year websites have the same exact verbatium decriptin of their trailer tires and are now both made in Chlna and could they be the same tire?

Last yeat I put Tow Master D range tires on my 7000 lb double axel dump trailer and they suck is best discription I can come up with. Lots of sway and squirm for a heavy duty tire

The last time I had a tire that handled like this it was a passanger rated tire on a 7000 lb trailer. All said and done I hope they are the same still

I guess what need to hear from is someone that has bought and used the Marathons in the last few years.

Thanks

I am not sure to be honest...my buddy owns the auto shop that ordered them and put them on and all I told him was I needed new tires and here are the size tires I needed. He knows that I trailer my boat a bit and have a 200 mile round trip up and back to my cabin that I make 2-3 times monthly.

P rated tires are passanger car type tires and not sure what sport tires are, I'm thinking passanger tires

My biggest problem is that a non trailer tire at 13" or 14" doesn't have a heavy enough load rating.

Anyone want any of these? They still have 40-50% tread, no weather cheacking but are 13 years old?

All said and done it guess it will be another set of Goodyears for me.

Thanks for the input.

Hitthebricks, I have goodyear marathons on my Shorelandr trailer that I bought new in 2010. I am pretty sure they are 14" tires, but unsure about rating. Overall I have been happy with them, but I did notice after a trip to Sioux Narrows Ontario and back that the far outside row of tread is wearing funny. From the research I have done and asked around it would appear I need my trailer needs to be "aligned" which I will be doing this Spring when I get it out of storage.

After that I plan on getting at least one new tire so I can put the spare and a new tire on to avoid a potential issue on the road. There is still plenty of tread on them and otherwise they are wearing perfect.

I wonder if possibly the trailer wasnt setup properly for my boat and that is the cause of this tire wear? Too much tongue or not enough tongue weight. Not sure, this is new to me. Hopefully the shop I take it to can figure that out.

This is probably of little help to you, but my tires are within the "last few years" that you asked about.

I would guestimate that I trailer my boat on average 750 miles per month May through September.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
