Ecoboost MPG issue

Recommended Posts

I drove my EB to southern Mn yesterday into a strong wind and got 15.2 mpg. Coming home I was at 21 mpg with a tail wind. At least that is what the computer was telling me. I was driving a bit over 70mph. Other times I have noticed a big difference when going into a head wind too.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is MPG ratings are based off of optimal speed in the 55-60 mph range. One should never expect to get the rated mpg once you go beyond 60 mph, let alone 75.

I figured when he said 75 he meant 80.

The numbers you mentioned regarding your trip to NoDak sounds about right on. Its s brand new truck and it needs to break in. I was also very annoyed at the initial fuel mileage on my ecoboost, but I also purchased mine during the winter.

The mileage was much improved in the warmer weather and with time. I have seen a gradual improvement in my mileage. My truck just ticked over 18,000 miles. Even during this winter, I'm averaging 18-18.5 for my 50 mile 90%highway commute. When blended with mixed driving in the city for errands and such, It doesn't drop below 16.5mpg. That is the best mileage I've ever gotten from a truck.

Wait it out. I think you'll be happy once it warms up and you get some more miles on your motor.

And for the other ecoboost guys, this motor thrives on air. Change your air filter! I waited until the "recommended" time and my mileage improved 1.5 miles per gallon after putting a new air filter in. I will be changing it much more often. Its cheap maintenance for good mileage.

I was just wondering about this the other day so I looked up the milage for the F150 on fuely and people are getting between 14-15 mpg Average.

How a person drives can have a huge influence on milage. I see people gunning there trucks flying by me every day and you know there milage stinks but that isn there chose I guess. I am a pretty conservative driver and I can AVG. about 13.5 in the winter with a 3/4 ton Yukon XL that can tow 12k lbs!

I had to bobtail a tandem axle Volvo day cab semi tractor from Texas to Minnesota last winter. The truck governed out at a max speed of 65mph and managed to get 10.8 mpg for the trip. Who knew the big rig would pull echo boost mileage. grin
