So who fishes Wacky Worms? have tossed a few in the past but am really going to make an effort to use them this season. Have a local lake with a lot of smallies and they are now up to going after size. Anyone have preferred colors and sizes?

You should get plenty of answers on this one. Wacky worms can wear the fish out from time to time.. So many ways to rig them to maybe get a few more bite from each worm as well. Color can be totally up to you, I usually throw natural colors, though I have wore them out on bubblegum before as well. You can also play with weighted hooks, or jigs ect...

have fun this summer with them.

Some of my best days last year were fishing Minnetonka Weedlines with a wacky rigged 5"senko. Color was day by day but natural colors were great. I rigged them weightless or with a little wacky jig head depending on the wind.

I threw them on 8lb fluro on a spinning rod, pretty fun.

I don't know what it is about wacky worms, they're one of those things that I just don't catch with. I can catch fish on a Texas rigged worm all day long but as soon as I rig up wacky, it's like I soaked my bait in fish repellent. crazy

Well I have been doing some shopping and I find there is no such thing as finding Senkos on sale and the Gamakatsu wicked wacky hooks with brush guards are also spendy. Will start off with some of them but no doubt will be looking for some less expensive version if the fishing is as good as I have been hearing. I did pick up a box selection at one of the big outdoor stores to give me a good color selection to experiment with. I have tossed them before and skipping docks is what I use them mostly for (largemouths) anyone toss yums or ganders knock offs?

BobbyBass- If you are a smart shopper, sometimes Gander Mtn will have their brand plastics on sale, and if you look they sometimes have 25 ct bags, stock up then. The gander ones dont quite sink the same as the actual Senko- but close enough for me. Another option, if ever in the Alex area is to stop in at Chrisophersons, you can buy 50 packs or even 100 packs at a pretty decent price even when they are not on sale. They also sell on the bay of E.

I fish senkos a lot and never buy Yamamotos. They're too spendy and rip too easy. One way to save money is to fish them t-rigged and when the end gets ripped up you can save them for wacky rigging.

Like Deitz said, Gander's brand are good knock offs. I like Cabelas' brand and Yum Dingers as well. Haven't tried Christopherson's, but I've heard good things about them too.

I was just about to write the exact opposite! I can't catch anything with worms that aren't rigged unweighted and wacky.

I don't do anything different than anyone else really, I prefer larger senko style baits (6'' usually) and pour my own when I have the time. My specific setup is spinning reel, 30lb braid, back to back uni knots to 20lb fluoro to give me a very good chance against pike and muskies, tied to a #4 VMC "drop shot" (NOT the spin shot) hook. Hook the wormie through the middle.

Here is what won me over on senkos:

Caught hundreds of these, despite our old standbyes of tubes, surface poppers, and suspending crankbaits giving us much poorer results:

Also caught these, which are NOT what I would call typical quarry for using senkos:

See the bright green senko?

I'm pretty sure those were all from the same day of fishing too, but the whole trip was pretty much like that.

I always have a spinning rod with a senko. It's my favorite cast-back lure if I've seen a fish that turned away.

Watermelon or green pumpkin work 99ish% of the time. Experiment with weightless, weighted hooks, wacky jigs. I love throwing weightless wacky on flat calm days, but wacky on a jig can also be super rad on cold choppy days when you need the weight to get it down to the fish and twitch it slowly.

It's a heck of a fun way to catch fish, that's for sure!

I don't throw them as much anymore but there was a year or two where I caught hundreds and hundreds of Bass with a wacky rigged senko. They are a blast to fish near weeds, weedlines, cattails, etc. Play around with weedless/non-weedless hooks and weighted/non weighted hooks. Color can be a factor on certain days I always loved Dark Purple (grape), Motor Oil, and Earthworm. For me, the brand didn't much matter. I would catch fish on all brands so I then went to buying cheaper brands versus the actual Senko's and high priced brands.

That is an incredible trip! Great fish!

Isn't it funny how some baits work so well for some of us and not at all for others? My best friend fishes wacky worms all the time and loads the boat.

Meanwhile I'll be hammering fish on spinnerbaits while he looks on in disgust because he can't buy a bite on them.

GM has their Brand on sale right now for 25% off I believe. I just grabbed a pack.

I am one who has no luck with them rigged wacky, but I also don't try it very much. This year I will give it another shot! I do have good luck with them texas rigged weightless. I always use the off brands, I haven't even tried a true senko yet.

The BPS Sticko's are also a good choice and you can get their value packs in the Plano Box for cheap like $15 for a couple hundred baits on occasion.......But heck it's hard not to catch fish on a stickworm........whichever brand it is. Although after reading through this I see there are a lot of you who would disagree smile
