spotty
This may have got brought up before, but last night I was fishing for crappies. I would have marks fly up to my bait, freeze, then slowly drift away. I tried getting them to rise, lift slow then hold, jiggle jiggle, even cursed. Any thoughts? CAMAN
Possibly a smell or taste they didn't like . You didn't happen to have gas or oil on your hands?Maybe they just didn't like the color or something was conspicuously out of place like the line was noticeable or could see the light in your house? borg0196
Maybe try downsizing, might get them to bite more. Or try going a little bigger too, you never know until you try.
harvey lee
When I get on a bite like that.i usually stop jigging as soon as the fish gets close to my bait. I hold it as still as I can and may slightly move it a very small amount. Color or a horizontal or vertical jig can make a difference also. Were u using a dead stick also. Many times I will jig them in and then they hit my dead stick. Works well on crappie and eyes using a dead stick while jigging. Few weeks back I was on some very nice slabs and all my fish came on the dead stick.

I have had Tulaby act like this a lot on one lake that I fish.

tunrevir
They tend to act like this on one of the lakes I fish. Have 1 rod rigged with a small spoon and another rigged with a tear drop or small crappie jig with euros on it or plastics. I like to work the fish with the spoon and when they come shooting up slowly raised the rod and keep them chasing. You will find there is a cut off point where they will break off the chase and drop back down or will commit and smack your offering. Every few minutes I will switch to the ice jig and plastics to give them something different. Glowed up lures will get more attention then non lit up ones. Good luck! Fun figuring the fish out and just when you do they change the way they act.Tunrevir~

This is where a camera comes in play. Rig the camera so its looking down so you can keep it well above the fish you'll learn alot.
