I should have noticed you said Taconite trail. I was thinking you guys were starting on the North shore. I don't want to drive up to Virginia so Ill have to pass but I still might head up to the north shore for a ride.

The plan at this time is to unload at the Taconite trail where it crosses 53 about 6 miles north of Virginia the lot is out of in the boonies kinda,,,, so I wouldn't leave my truck and trailer there but you can head to Ely with us on sat and head to Grand Rapids on sunday if you want to make it a 2 day trip ,,Just get a room in Virginia
I dont ride fast ,,,30 is my normal cruising speed as the Tac is wide but curvy in spots and I do like to go slow to take in the sites

Randy am I missing something? You would not leave your truck and trailer there over night or at all? Not sure how you are unloading there and not leaving the rig there?

I have an empty spot on my trailer, or I can hop on with someone else, makes no difference to me. I'm just outside Cloquet, a mile from the casino.

Aaah. Wasn't sure what kind of area you hung out in! So, the plan is to unload there ride up to the Ely area and back? What kind of mileage are we talking? Just incase it gets late and I may need to grab a room somewhere?

If I remember when I looked last year it was about 70 miles to Ely from the lot. Benchwarmer's in Tower is about halfway, right off the trail with lots of parking space, and has decent app's and burgers etc

Yup, but I owned it a year, put on over a 1000 miles and someone came along and offered me 600 more than I paid for it.

Couldn't say no....but it's looking like I picked the wrong time to do it.

Well, the list is full of snow sliders right now. Pick up a cheap one for the rest of the season and trade it up next year!

I am a for-sure for the 15th. Which way will you be heading up (not sure where your located at)? Maybe we could fill a trailer if you dont have someone else headed up with you. Or you could drop your rig at my house and we could load your sled on my trailer for the ride up to Virginia. I'm basically located a couple minutes from Black Bear casino.

I am heading up that way this weekend with the family. Going to Orr and riding that area. Sounds like trails are excellent and its supposed to be about 20 ABOVE both days Also looks like I will be riding locally for a bit on Thursday while Junior is in school.

I go right up 35W right past the Black Bear. I am trying to talk my Cuz into riding with on my trailer and will try and find out if he can go tonight. If not I will have one empty trailer side coming up from the cities. Not sure what my plans maybe if it gets late and I may need to find a room or just up and back for the day is the plan right now. I have pretty much resigned to the fact fishing maybe over with all this snow on the lakes and may as well make the best of the rest of this winter sledding!

I will try and let you know as soon as I hear from him. Right now he is out of town for the week for work.

Also, not sure if anyone is interested but there is a group of guys from another site I will be riding with this weekend up on the North shore which will be leaving the parking lot off hwy 2 north of Two Harbors at 9:00am this Sat the 8th. It is an open ride so anyone can meet up. Some of them are going to try and ride all the way up to Carlton Peak and back with a stop at the Trestle Inn for lunch. They stated they will be riding at a "brisk pace" so hopefully I will keep up!

P.S any word from Gary on the 15th ride?

Hey the more the merrier. Why is Gary riding Sunday if his ribs hurt? Give them another week to rest and give it a try on the 15th with us!

Map yes. Why not just meet at independence. the wayside rest at hwy 33 and 53 then run together.

You will see the "state trail" sign as you approach the parking area,,, its about 8 miles from the turn off where 53 and 169 split,,,, last time I drove by last week the parking area was plowed out so we should be good to go
