Capt'nMorgan
I an putting rattle wheels in my house and am not sure if I want to put them up high or down lower say 3ft. or so. would like them lower so there is room for cabinets or shelving up higher
Redlineracer12
I have mine about halfway up the wall, cabinets above them. In the back I have them underneath the top bunk so I can sleep up there and still land a fish underneath while the bunk is setup.
Eric Wettschreck
When I first built my house I put them down low. The next season I moved them to aboot waist height. When they're low to the floor it sucks having to get on your knees in the middle of the night to deal with fish. Much easier if they're up a bit higher. If you have holes in front of cabinets or stuff that makes them not next to the wall I'd say put them lower to eliminate the snag as you walk by factor.Put them on hinges so you can swing em outta the way to auger holes. hawkeye43
mount them to the bottom of the shelf or cabinet, that way there out of the way of an auger.
Gordie
Eyeball height or straight down from the ceiling is where I have had them Like Eric said its a pain trying to reel them up in the middle of the night on the floor. My brother also showed me a cool trick this weekend. He puts those little lights that screw onto bike tire that light up when they move . Then in the middle of the night when you get a bite it blinks red so its easy to figure out which one has a bite on it.
3pronghook
put them high. I had mine low for one weekend and realized that when id grab line and jig it I had to bend down and also would create line looping off spool problems. put them eyeball height and haven't had any issues since. nice for realling up when moving too. High High High!
sportfish
We put some on the ceiling on one house that worked real good . Mine are now around 30 inches or so and 3 of them are around a foot off the floor , that sucks ! The ceiling is best

Can you ask him what type and brand he uses and where he got them from?
centralmnguy
I have 4 holes in my fish house one in each corner...I put shelves directly above each hole about eye level...I mounted my rattle wheels underneath each shelf about eye level. No bending down & out of the way. I also put 2 screws about 1" long on the front face of shelves about a foot apart & just wrap my line around the screws when not in use...this way you can keep your bobber/line at same depth each time & don't have to wind your line up all the way. harvey lee
MIne are all approx 1 ft from the cieling, they work great there. They all have the swing arm so I can put the almost flush to the wall when not in use.
waskawood
Mine are high and the swing arm type also. It is nice to walk over to jig them or check the bait without having to bend over and get on my sore old knees.
MNfan
High then they are out of the way when using auger especially when the extension is on, also easy to wind and grab to jig when needed!Andy
Walkingstick3
Straight off the ceiling or off the underside if the cabinets
Bureaucrat
I have had mine every which way. Low, hanging off the five gallon pail. Couldn't help but cause a rats nest when setting the hook due to the short distance between the reel and the water. High, mounted on the ceiling. Worked great for hook sets and cranking back up. Problem I had was that the lines hung all the way down and people kept getting tangled up in the lines as they moved about the house. Mid, waist high, about 3-4' off the floor. Gives you enough room to set the hook, and keeps your space above them open to flail around, bob and weave, use your entire body to tell stories etc. Getting rattle reels on an arm you can swing away is a must.
