Not necessarily safe, but effective. I didn't think about the log breaking, but I did notice that they are standing in the path of the recoil of a broken rope or cable twice each time around!

Great ingenuity! I guess it would work for about any vehicle as long as you could get it hooked in some fashion. And had some buddies with nothing but time on their hands!

Great! now I've gotta save up for some old railroad ties and cables strong enough to support a vehicle. lol I thought the safety measures we had before were enough... After a second thought I think I will just stick to measuring the ice before this kind of mishap happens. Nice to know how to do it in the event a car does go through though.
