FishinFools
Heading up to DL in mid-Jan targeting perch and eyes and am looking for some advice. If you had to pick three lures, what would you bring? Size? Color? Any comments on ice fishing Devil's Lake in general would also be much appreciated!Thank you in advance. PGAGolfPro
I am actually doing the same thing. Heading up there the weekend of the 24th in January. I would also be interested in some tips for Devils Lake.
castmaster
Rattles rattles rattles! We have always done best with baits that have rattles. Buckshots in 1/16 and 1/8oz but may bump up to 1/4oz. Rattln Fyers in those same sizes. Are the go to baits. The frostee and Demon spoons in the same sizes have served us well when they want non rattling baits. If I had to pick 3 baits it would be Buckshots, Rattln Flyers and Frostees in 1/16 & 1/8oz. Colors- Red, Gold, Blues Purples seem to do well.
castmaster
As far as general tips...Walleyes will be fairly shallow first and last light, and thats the best times to catch them. Think 6'-12' depths on any kind of structure. Best if it has access to deeper water.Perch Can be a tough nut to find, but once your on them you should be able to stay on them if you keep moving. We have had the most luck focusing on the bottom of the break where it levels out into the basin water. Up on top of flats would be my second choice to start. Havent done very well fishing breaks themselves. Also whn fishing hte basin side, if you catch them focus on that exact depth when moving along the break. Example, if you found fish at 32' just off the bottom of the break, stay in that 32' along the break. Dont slide out into 34' or up onto the break at 30' or you will most likely not stay on them. creepworm
For walleye, the small size lindy darter in perch color. Every time I have been up there I start with this, and have never had to switch. For perch, lindy rattlin flyers and slender spoons.
MNCPRGUY
Spend the first day with the Perch Patrol. Money well spent! +1 on the buckshot. Also like macho minnows.
Cannon643
I agree with what the others have said, Buckshots and Rattlin flyers for jigging. Best colors so far this year have been silver, glow red, and perch. Also, I have had good luck in the past with #8 Genz worms for perch both jigging and under a bobber. Blue & white, Pink & white, and glow red are colors that work.

20lbSloughShark
Lindy Ratl N' Flyer spoon, Sweedish Pimple, and a Jigging Rap.1/8oz gold shiner for the Lindy, 1/4oz silver for the Pimple, and 3/16oz silver for the Jigging Rap
Vitreus
I've seen videos where they slammed 'em with slender spoons up there… Other two for me would probably be a Rattlin Flyer and a Macho Minnow. That would give you something light and fluttery, something with a rattle, and something heavy that you can fish pretty aggressively depending on the mood of the fish.
