Nuts First Deer!

Recommended Posts

My nephew has hunted hard the last few years and has just run into no luck or bad luck. At any rate, this year he was able to connect. Thanks to great people opening up their land to him, he was able to harvest his first deer and a buck none the less. He learned a lot about shot placement, trailing a wounded deer, the uncertainty of leaving it lay for a few hours, the feeling of success once it is retrieved and the ins and outs of field dressing a deer. A great hunt and an even better learning experience. Glad I got to accompany him during the hunt!

Nice Job Nut!

Good for him! Looks like a good eater! wink

Seening a deer get gutted for the first time can be a bit traumatic for kids. My sons first deer I told him to go sit back by his stand while I gutted it out. I thought just killing one and being excited about that part was enough for the first year. Now he has take 7 deer and is a little more use to what needs to get taken care of at that point. wink

That's a happy smile right there! Congrats to both of you.

I was helping my 11 yr. old boy write a skit last night for school project, and in the story-line he wanted to include the topic of the dog and cats fighting over scraps and pieces from the deer hanging in our garage.

My kids have all grown up around harvested animals and fish, and the process that goes along with putting them in the freezer. I told him, "Son, I don't think very many kids, or maybe even your teacher, are going to appreciate what you're talking about in this skit. On top of that, I'm thinking they might be a little grossed out!" laugh

We decided it would be better to have his animals arguing over table scraps. Ha ha ha....
