mlvaj
I'm thinking it's that famous lull time of the hunting season. Went out over the weekend and saw 2 does at 150 yds and that's it. A whole weekend without deer movements. Looks like the trails haven't been stepped on for weeks. Hope this cold snap will get them moving again for next weekend. Just want the kids to get something for the youth hunt.
BryanL
Completely agree with the lull. Was out both days and never saw a deer.
paceman
Once this cold october rain quits the deer will be on thier feet. The next 2 days you should see an increase of deer movement!
jwhawkridge
Was up north over the weekend and the weather was definitely not cooperating. The leaf drop and rain pretty much killed any sign of movement. All the deer were very spooky and slow moving - had one small doe yearling come it at ten yards - VERY cautious . I also noticed on the trailcam that not one pic happened when the temp was higher than 50 degrees. I think the blast of warm air over the last two weeks made the lull even worse. Cooler temps should kick things off and get them up and moving. I'm thinking we're going to see an explosion of movement over the next two weeks. Of course, the standing crops aren't helping any. bowhunternw
There was alot of deer moving last night, but zero bucks. Still a nice night to be out.
NELS-BELLS
I agree that the weather definately affects there movement. My son and I hunted Camp Ripley over the weekend. Only 150 hunters so the pressure was minimal. We saw more deer on Sat, when the weather was crappy, then we did on Sunday, when the weather was nice. And we saw more deer in the evening then we did in the morning.Another factor that I think affects movement is food and what type of food. If its corn, they can stay in the standing corn all day and night. If its acorns, they will bed down and graze in the oaks all day and night and therefore they don't travel much. Plus, you can't get close to them without spooking them.Nels
nbadger23
I'm not sure if it can get any slower. I've officially seen more deer in my yard (7) in the past 3 weeks than I have in almost 25 hours of stand time (5). The #1 thing that changed this year in my area was that many of the crop fields weren't planted with anything because it was too wet. There are a couple of standing corn fields about 3 miles away but otherwise everything else is basically weeds. I'm worried that it drove many deer away from their normal core area and am waiting anxiously to see if they'll return after those fields get picked. Those that are around certainly do like my flowers and garden right now though :-)
FISHINGURU
Now is the time to fill the doe tag, that way you can sit back the rest of the season and wait for a nice buck. She lulls me, she lulls me not.
Archerysniper
Passed a little spiker at 8 yards last night. He bypassed the corn, bean, acorns and made a bee line for the alfalfa that is finally growing like crazy with the rain we have had lately.
