No luck last evening. Had a great hunt, just no bear this time. When I got home, the cameras revealed my bear there the evening before opener, during shooting hours! I will make the drive again tonight to try my luck. He is not a big bear, but he is a shooter in my book. Perfect weather last night and even cooler today. I like my chances. Heard only 2 shots last evening from near my location, right at prime time. I was surprised to hear a four wheeler tearing it up on a neighboring property in my remote location early in my hunt, but hey, it's a holiday weekend and I'm quite certain it had no impact on my hunt anyway. Hopefully they had a good time, I know I did. There is something special about bear hunting! Good luck to all of you bear hunters!

Port. Winterhawk,

Thanks for the tip on the 6 foot logs, much appreciated. I meant to do just that, this year, but I've been so busy clearing trails on my recently timbered land, that I missed that completely. All I know is that my bear looks bigger when he is close to the camera, and smaller when he is farther away, so I'm going with what he looks like when he is close! He has a split left ear, so I'm quite sure its the same bear! I would say he is in the 175 lb. range, but it is so hard to tell. I have had two bigger bears on camera this year, but neither has hit my bait yet. Hopefully the grease gets spread around so I get some other visitors. Both of those bears were over 200 pounds and one well over 200. No wolves in the bait this year, which I am fine with! I have never, ever, had such cool weather as yesterday and today are offering me during early bear season! Feels weird to have to put a jacket on during the last two hours of the evening, but I will take it!

Hunted near Kabetogama the 1st through the 3rd. I had a yearling in my bait every sit, but nothing big. These pictures are making me really jealous as I don't think I'll get back out again this year. Good luck fellas!
