Pilonidel Cyst Post Surgery

Recommended Posts

had surgery last Thursday am, doc said easy peasy 3-4 days off work and be back to normal with no issues. its almost a week later, wife changes dressing twice a day which is close to pure he{{ each time and I really don't see much relief in the near future.

sitting/driving is completely out of question, seems all I can do is walk or lay on stomach

anyone have experience or knowledge of this and any way to ease the pain or be more comfy? I am taking up to 800mg ibuprofen 3 times/daily or if that does not work I switch over to leftover percaccet/oxycodone from surgery

No experience with what you are dealing with but try to be patient. Normal recovery doesn't really mean much since everyone is different. What might take someone 3-4 days to recover from might take another person 7-8 or 10-14 days, its all up to the individual.

Just rest up, keep on top of the pain meds, and listen to the doc.

Hope you are back on your feet and feeling good again soon.

Had it done TWICE! Not fun, but it does turn quickly. If you are in pain get more meds....vicodin was the only thing that took the edge off for me to be able to sleep at all. I'd say two weeks till I was pretty much back to normal.

There should be a support group for wives that have to change that dressing...as much as it sucked on my end, I'm sure its no picnic on her "end" either.

thank you very much for sharing your experience with me, I was beginning to wonder if I was nuts based on my amount of pain, I stopped the percaccet 2 days ago and have only been using at night but I guess its just not enuff, guess I will be back on it all day tomorrow again.

I also had it done twice. There is probably only a few procedure’s more humiliating and painful than having to go through what you are experiencing. I didn’t know what was going on when I had my first go around with it. I finally was forced to make a Doctor appointment after the drain hole plugged up and I thought the pressure was going to kill me. By far the most pain I have had to endure, period. I thought my wife was going to pass out when the Dr. told her she would have to pack it. I had to visit him twice before he was comfortable showing her what she was going to have to do. I got to start out with 20” of packing. The first time he pulled it out the old and put in the new one was a real eye opener.

I really felt bad for my wife. Needless to say she was scared to death, and me, with my tolerance level at zero, found it hard to give her words of encouragement. But every night for about 12 days she would say “time to pack”, and I would again be at her mercy.

The second time it was a flare up of the same cyst. This time we had better insurance and I went to a specialist in the metro. He didn’t necessarily agree with the previous procedure I had gone through and went about things a little different. I had surgery the second time and according to him have an 80% chance of being rid of it for good. Again the humiliation of being face down with a team of 6 people in an operating room to some adjusting, but it was quickly over come when they put me out and went to work. When I came to it was just a bad memory. Recovery was much better and there was no need to pack anything. If I would have known this option was available I would have never went through the first fiasco.

Hang in there and good luck! When I saw the title of the thread I immediately broke out in a cold sweat. Keep on your wife’s good side and don’t argue or talk bills during packing time. I would like to say some day you will look back on all this and laugh, but, I am still waiting.

I had one of those done about 6 years ago or so. It was some ingrown hairs stuck under the skin. Had them cut out and that was the end of it. Had a few days of packing, but didn't need any pain medication. By the sounds of it, I was pretty lucky. Hang in there, it'll get better and you're hardly remember it in a few years.

This one sent shivers down my spine too. I had this done almost 30 years ago. I was single and had to stand on a chair in front of the bathroom mirror and try to pack it every day. Weirdest thing to try to hit the spot with a pile of salve non a stick while looking over my shoulder in the mirror. The pain was subsiding by the fourth day or so, but I couldn't go to work for a week. The thing kept leaking so I always had the big wet spot in the back of my britches. Once it finally settles down, you will be very happy to "have it behind you." Sorry...

My doctor told me the pain of those things is the closest a man can have to experiencing the pain of childbirth. Owie...

well after talking with nurses on phone on Friday and requesting percaccet refills, things are slowly shaping up and we are fine tuning the process to best of our ability. finding out hard way post surgery what they recommended for meds schedule was not the best. instead of 1 percaccet every 2 hours I am now taking 2 every 6 hours with 3 ibuprofen inbetween that. while the ibuprofen is not as good, it does allow me to get more intense pain relief with the 2 percaccet and have now timed dressing changes the last 2 days to coincide 45 min after taking 2 percaccet which has made a HUGE difference.

thx for the comments & info, nice to hear I am not totally nuts

I can say that i have not had that one done but did have a cyst on the right side of the taint. You know the spot. Doc split my cheek to cheek 4 inches up on each side plus the taint. Now that will keep you on you belly for a long time.

Out patient surgery, all the instrcutions were when it starts to hurt have wife pull out packing. We ended up with a garbage bag full. It was like a whole new feeling, but due to the heat it did nto heal correctly. So he took two sticks of basically silver solder touched them togeter and sealed it up. had that done twice. Iwas on the vicoden for a while then perch them the 800. Sitting in the hot bath helped a lot. what a night mare and would not wish it on my worse enemy.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
