Looks like if you're a XBOX Gold member you will be able to get free downloads starting next month which include: HALO3, Assassin's Creed 2, and World of Tanks (which looks pretty freakin' awesome).

thats cool about time they offer other features to go with the price tag of a live membership.

So if you want to play multiplayer on the PS4 you now have to subscribe to PlayStation Plus?

Hmmm. That negates the subscription advantage they had over XBOX.

That is correct, its a negative but really a "push" considering you are already doing that on XBox. You will get free games each month with the PlayStation Plus subscription. (the already do this if you have a membership on PS3)

I think Sony learned their lesson after the pricing fiasco of the PS3 launch, didn't hurt to have their presentation second either. $399 seems like a very solid price to me. Hard to argue with it being cheaper and having good specs.

So, the PS4 is NOT backwards compatible? That to me really sucks. The ONE doesn't allow you to sell no longer used games or "lend" to more than one person? This will crush the game rental industry.

I guess MS is getting a monopoly on gameplay by forcing the Live membership and pushing retailers out.

Not at this time (same for XBox One). The rumor is you will be able to stream older games once Gakai (game streaming) is incorporated next year, but not confirmed.

PS4 does NOT have used game restrictions. XBox One does.

That is pretty "Cheap" on Microsoft's part in my and probably everyone else's opinion. I wonder if they'll change their thinking by release because of all the ticked off folks....

Here is an updated Comparison Chart (from IGN) that I put into an easier to read format. Looks like the only items TBA are the XBox's processor specs and if the PS3 has the option of utilizing an external HD (assuming Yes since it has USB).

It means for instance if it is that we in the US couldn't play games purchased from Europe or Asia. You are "locked" to using games from your geographical region.

Basically it means that if you buy a game in North America, it won't work in on a system bought in Europe, Asia, Africa, etc... They have done this in the past to combat piracy (and a few other reasons). The downside was that if you travel internationally, you couldn't play your games on a system purchased outside your region. It doesn't sound like it would be a big deal, but with people travelling and/or relocating internationally more and more it is becoming more of an issue. Hope that makes sense.

Just saw your post JPZ!

Quote:
I believe that's what "negates the advantage" means, which is different than "negative".

One of the two things XBOX owners constantly heard from PS3 owners was that they didn't have to pay for online service, but that talking point is now history...along with the mythical blu-ray player.

and with that it will come down to personal preference

Semantics, depending upon which side of the isle you were on. But true, it is now history and will come down to cost and service. Although I would bet that $100 price difference for the PS3 would pay for a sizable chunk of service fees.

Its really not $100 less for the PS4 if you look at it. The motion sensing stuff isnt included with it, whereas it is on the ONE.

I suppose one could argue that you dont need/want it in the first place I guess.

But if you intend on having it, you will likely add on considerably to close that $100 gap.

I am bummed neither are backward compatible.

Very True. I am not interested in any of the motion stuff on any of the systems, so it really adds no value to me. To each his own.

Used games cost a fee to sell.

Used games only work one extra time.

Hard to argue. Goodbye Xbox, hello PS4.
