Need new boat trailer tires

bgmny

Question

I am in need of new trailer tires for my Alumacraft trophy. I have Carlisle tires now which have major inside wear. Everyone here was recommending Goodyear marathons, but researching online now it looks like they are made in China and not very good quality. Any recommendations?

Every set of the Carlisle trailer tires I have seen have the same wear, so I'm sure it's not an isolated case of a bent axle. I'm just trying to find opinions of what everyone is upgrading to.

As the learned ones say, rightfully, correlation doesn't necessarily imply causation.

Not positive what I have on my boat; Titan, I think. Haven't had any problems and tread seems to be holding up OK. No sidewall rot/cracks, etc.

My Carlisle tires lasted about one season of traveling around Mankato area lakes and maybe one trip to Red. They are designed to last long enough to get the boat off the dealers parking lot. Anything after that is a bonus. The Goodyears I had were just fine. Oh and what isn't made in China ? Lol

Goodyear Marathons for me. Last set got me by for 6 years, with many, many miles. Make sure the trailer is aligned and NOT overloaded, many boat trailers are undersized for the size of the boat, double axles are often needed.

If tires are wearing unevenly, doesn't that imply or indicate that something is messed up with the alignment, bent axle, something like that?

Not always the case...carlisle are a very bounce tire and its a known problem for them to lose their inside tread. Unfortantly for me, there was some kind of tire shortage last summer and i wad more or less stuck buying them again and there not as cheap as they once were...heavier boat they can last maybe 3 years pending driving.

anything but a Carlisle.

Ditto.

When I replaced mine at a shop in Pequot, they recommended some Commander brand, which they said are comparable to a Towmax, which they said are about as good as it gets. They would not even put Carlisle on if somebody brought them in - once they told me that, that was enough to tell me they cared wink Now we have Commanders on and a Towmax spare. Price wasn't bad either. Good luck.
