Let's talk online fishing retailers.

If you guys go online to buy fishing gear:

1. Where do you go

2. Why do you go there

3. Whats important to you? Price? Selection? Other stuff (videos, tips)

4. If you don't do any shopping online...why not?

Let's hear your thoughts.

TW is the top site ordered from for me. Free shipping at $50, and the sales a few times a year is great. Pretty deep selection and they carry the Powell rods.

NorthStar for all my jigs.

Cabelas also when I can leverage a discount or their Visa card points.

I buy local when I can - Thornes, Joe's or Capra's.

If I can't, it's usually something I can't get locally like Japanese fluoro or certain lures, then it's usually TW, occasionally The Tackle Trap, especially for reel parts, etc.

Also, Christopherson's for bulk plastics, North Star for swim jigs and football jigs, and Northland for all sorts of stuff.

Very rarely Bass Pro. Basically, once a year and only for the Silent Series 5s which I can't seem to reliably find anywhere else.

Like most, TW is #1. Great CS, great prices, fast and free shipping over 50$, and great to talk with if you have questions. Also if you order rods online like I do you will notice TW puts in a great deal of effort to pack them carefully so they wont break, more so than any other place i've ordered from. I do order some stuff online from BTD as well. The only time I do Cabelas is when my points accumulate and I can order everything free. Lastly, Northstar Custom Baits for all my jigs.

When it comes to buying gear Im just looking for who can give me the best deal possible. I dont think Ive ever paid retail for a rod or reel. I usually grab things at sportshows or wait for the newest models to hit and pick up older versions at a discounts or as sales pop up.

When I do shop online Tackle Warehouse is usually the first place I click, not sure why though, name recognition or habit maybe?

TW is my favorite online store...otherwise retail for quick pickups and cabelas or bass pro when they have good sales.

One other great thing about TW is you don't pay sales tax...adds up to a good chunk of money over a year.

Does TW do free shipping on rods?

TW or BTD because of the selection and sales. I was recently in San Fran for work, and found an awesome store called Hi's. They had all the Japanese baits we don't see here in stores and have a great online presence. For me, I like to know if I call with a question, someone with experience is gonna answer the phone and be able to answer my question.

Does TW do free shipping on rods?

yup

TW usually has everything I'm looking for, other places carry this but not that or not a certain size etc...but its rare TW doesn't have all I want in one stop shopping.

Offering some program like Amazon Prime would help on-line tackle companies generate business. I think Prime is like $70 a year and you get free two day shipping on all items that qualify (most do). I would order from TW more if the free shipping threshold was lower than $50. I often times have smaller orders and the shipping is as much as what I'm buying.

So, Amazon prime is $79 but you get other Amazon based perks along with that. What do you think a company could add in to make it worth it, or would it just make sense to make it $49 rather than $79?

I have yet to buy tackle on an online retailer, usually because if I'm buying something it's because I lost a lure and need a replacement ASAP.

I also have a habit of buying TONS of plastics when they go on sale, and then not needing to buy anymore for a while. I still have bags and bags of Tiki worms I got for $1 a piece a few years ago. smile

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
