thescottith
At the Mn Ice show last year I saw a Bump board that was shaped in a U instead of the two boards making a 90 degree angle. I didnt get one at the time for some reason..and now cant locate any info on line.Any one know who makes this bump board? someone else on another site stated they have one and all it says on it is Catch II release.Any info would be awesome.thanks
magnum mike
You can make a half dozen of them from $3 piece of vinyl rain gutter and some caps.
Jim Uran
Fish trough??
MikeRaetz
Definitely the Fish trough!! They make them from 17 inches all the way up to 60!! I think they will be at the sports show this weekend in the cities!! Best measuring board I have ever used!!
silverbulletguy
They look pretty nice but they aren't cheap. I would have guessed they were half as much as they are listed on their HSOforum.
JoePalermo
yea there a lil spendy but i figure you get what u pay for and these fish troughs are gurenteed and if you ever have a prob you can call the owner directly. worth the money Imo
buzbunni
I prefer the Hawg Trough.Inexpensive and lower in profile.
TruthWalleyes
Make then extend to 80 with clearly visible #s and I'm sold.
buzbunni
Make then extend to 80 with clearly visible #s and I'm sold. Extension would be nice, tho I don't personally have use for it.Numbers are good enough for me, but certainly not good for more precise micro measurements. 123fish
6" piece of sewer pipe cut to whatever length you want it and then cut in half lengthwise. Take an end cap cut it in half and glue onto your pipe. Mark it as you want it for measurement with a Sharpie. Cheap, accurate and will last forever. BLACKJACK
I think when you have a fish trough in your boat or fishhouse it helps when you get checked by the DNR, especially on a slot lake, they know you're not guesstimating. It would be nice to have one where the numbers show up better but I solve that by putting a piece electrical tape right at 17 inches (or wherever the slot starts). g_anoka
I guess I am just lazy, and cheap. I just use a metal yardstick from any home improvement store. Alot cheaper then the ridiculous price I think that they charge for a piece of plastic with numbers on.
TruthWalleyes
Extension would be nice, tho I don't personally have use for it.Numbers are good enough for me, but certainly not good for more precise micro measurements. Inch increments are good enough for me. I want one that length for sturgeon and catfish measurments when in contests that clearly show the numbers for photo purposes. It can be hard to get a good view of a tape measure when taking a full length picture of a 60+ inch fish. I've often thought about the PVC method, but then someone's got to take my word that i built it accurate. Buying from a trusted source would eliminate the doubt. WOuld be nice. But i would also want it to be somewhat colapsable, because you don't need an 80" trough to take up 80"..Though i do have space for it, i doubt many others would. MN BassFisher
Just to throw another option out there, if you search Frabill Bump Board (some pictures say Benchmark on them) you'll see they have a few different sizes (22" which would be good for Panfish and Bass, 32" - which would be good for Bass and Walleye, and 48" which would be good for Pike and Muskies)

MNCPRGUY
You can make a half dozen of them from $3 piece of vinyl rain gutter and some caps. +1, Make 'em any length to meet your needs. If weight is a concern, this is likely a little lighter than the sewer pipe option.
eyesonly
I also Use the Rain Gutter. work really well
fasternu
I bought a 10foot section of vinyl gutter and 3 end caps. Cut them into 48" lengths and got a tackle-maker's sticker. Put the sticker on it with the 1/4 inch increments along with the weight scale, and keep one in my boat, and one for ice fishing. Most DNR officers look at it and don't bother double-checking because they know it is accurate. If/when the sticker ever gives out, I can just replace it (often times for free). Took about 10 minutes, tops, to make and I have about $6 invested.
Jim Uran
The fish trough is built to last, this thing is as tough as nails!!
LeDoctaire
For ice fishing, I found one of the State Fair 1"x1" yardsticks. On the one inch end, I attached a small 'L' bracket, on the other end, I attached my scoop. For about $1.50, I produced my combination measuring stick & no-bend-down scoop to clear my holes. And yes, I know you can buy one just about like it......for $13.99! I feel better with this.
TruthWalleyes
Lots of good ideas on here. I think in order to get the trough at the length i'm looking for, i'll try the PVC method if i can find a long sticker tape. That way DTRO doesn't 2nd guess the big flatheads or sturgeon i'm going to enter this year On second thought, maybe instead of inches, i'll just use AIS stickers...This fish measured 10 AIS stickers in length
TravP
Fish trough?? Except when ice fishing outside. They will stick to it in the cold temps.
EBass
Don't know if these are still being made, but he's on this site, er sometimes. MSRD Board. It's in my avatar. I'll try to PM him. Kinda cupped so fish sits in there nicely. Made from wood so it floats. I got the small board that only goes to 23", but if I catch a bass bigger than that it's close to a record. He does make larger sizes. I don't know if these are still being made (retired), but its sweet.
DTro
Truth,There are some really nice Muskie style bump boards that would work great for big Cats and Sturgeon. However they come with a price to match too.T's TackleMuskie BumperJust EncaseAll very nice and they fold up to not take up much room. The Just Encase is probably the nicest one out there as it is a tri fold and has a glow in the dark ruler, but OUCH @ $140I wouldn't use any type of trough for measuring big cats or sturgeon, just my opinion. TruthWalleyes
Well $140 is a little less that what i just paid for a beef tenderloin at $17/ lb
