Generators for fish house

My two cents. Saying everyone needs to own a Honda or Yamaha is like saying the only 4-wheel drive vehicles are the Lincoln or the Cadilac.

I purchased a Champion 2000 from Cabelas - 599.00 on sale plus a 50.00 cash back from Cabelas = 550.00. I love it - easy start - quiet - ecconomical - plus - it fit my budget. Just sayin' there are other fish in the sea.

Love my Honda. I also added the gas tank system, which avoids the middle of the night fill ups. I don't know much about the other units mentioned, but I can tell you the Honda is a solid choice. Since its somewhat small, I can put it in the back of my truck and lock it to the bed so I don't have to worry about it going missing.

Fuel consumption can quickly make up the differance in cost between a cheap unit and a good one. Sold my older generator (Yamaha) for $250 and bought a 2000 Honda for $850. Paid for the differance in fuel saved in 4 years mostly just running at the hunting shack.

I do think sooner or later one of the cheapies is going to come out with a quiet one, maybe the Costco unit with the Yamaha motor, maybe not. I have been told there are a ton of differences in the electronics also. Anybody ever, like I did, buy a cheap pressure washer with the Honda motor? It was junk but the motor ran fine. I was looking at some camping websites with posts between even Yamaha and Honda. Keep in mind the decible readings they refer to are only with light or no load. Put a load on and the numbers change drastically, and 6-8 decibles can be a huge difference. The other thing is the Yamaha is like 89cc's where the Honda is closer to 100. That means the Yamaha will have to work harder and ramp up faster than the tried and proven Honda motor and therefore be noisier, and those are the 2 best ones made. The bigger issue is I just wasn't raised to be rude enough to use a cheap generator where it ruins someone elses experience on the ice. I know it's a free world, but it's still not right. Get a good generator or save up till you can. Thats just my opinion, and everybody else has a right to theirs. I promise to never post on another generator thread again, lets just tell people to do a search.

Not sure if you are talking about the Yamaha EF2000, or the cheap knockoff with the Yamaha motor. Regardless I've ran the Yamaha EF2000 next to the Honda EU2000 all winter long. The Yamaha uses a little less gas and is a touch quieter at idle. They are about the same under load. Definitely can't go wrong with either.

Anyone have experience with Gernerac generators? We used one with our Perm on Mille Lacs and it seemed to work well. I've not heard a Honda or Yamaha to compare the noise to. I can't recall the size we had, but is the one in the case that looks like the honda.

Ran about 4-5 hours on a full tank. We had lights and ceiling fan on, nothing else plugged in.

I have a new honda. Instead of having the fuel shut off like a Yamaha, can't we just run the Honda's until they are out of gas? That should do the same trick shouldn't it? First year with a generator so not sure what to do for long term storage.
Just start it and let it run for while every couple weeks.
