Best flipping rod

I highly doubt you will be able to get 60 bucks off this rod at a sports show which was his max. cost. I don't see the need to spend that much for a flipping rod anyway as you really don't need that sensitive a rod especially when you most likely will be using braid. A good heavy series rod with a quick tip would do a nice job.

I would take that bet on the $60 off!!!!!! I can't just about PROMISE you, that you could get out the door for $200 on that rod at the MPLS show.

And, yes, it is at the top of the range, but when is the last time us addicts didn't go to the "high range" on a new fishing rod smile

In that price range, look hard at the Powell Endurance series. I use two of their flipping sticks. The 775 is a 7'7" 5 power - I use it for pitching in rushes and rice with braid. Really a powerful rod but has a nice fast tip to it so it's really accurate pitching with it. The other is the 764, which is a 7'6" x-fast mag medium. Mag medium seems weird, but it's mag-medium on a flipping stick power scale, so a lighter power flipping stick. I have 16 or 20# fluoro on it, and use it pitching in clear water plus use it for football heads, small swimbaits, big jigs ion deep water - all kinds of stuff. Wonderfully versatile rod.

They'll set you back $169. Very hard to beat in terms of bang for the buck.

Cheers,

RK

Even a 21' Nitro will price out close to $50K with the "necessary goodies" added!

Lots of good rods available in that price range. The ABU Garcia models are good rods at the low end of that range and perform as well as many higher priced rods. IMO you won't notice much difference until you get into the big money rods like Loomis GLX, NRX and the St. Croix Legend Xtremes. A Shimano Cumara for under $200 would be a great deal.

I use a Phenix Recon 796 and really like it, they also make a 766 in that series. Powell and Dobyns make some great flippin sticks as well in that price range.

this guy knows wink

cumaras have been out for a while...i don't care for the short stubby split grip eva handles, like full cork myself...

Could always try finding used as well. I bought my loomis mossyback 7'5" flipping stick for 150$ off the net. Rod was mint. Not even a scratch by the hook keeper. There are great sticks to be had if you search hard.

Gloomis mossyback at the show is the way to go. It'll be right atop your budget but will be better than any other rod options including the Cumara which I also realllllly like but its doesn't fit the hand as well as the full cork grips (rear and large fore-grip) of the Mossy back and when it comes to fishing cover its best to have a rod thats comfortable because the often violent hookset. Split grips sock for flipping.

But if you truly don't wanna drop dimes on an "elitist" (lol) rod, you're in luck because in my opinion flipping/pitching isnt a technique where you want a rod that your going to baby... Its better to me, to have a rod that I can beat the living carp out of and not get emotionally attached to it.

Don't get me wrong people, high modulus, sensative graphite rods are pretty much a necessity for some techniques like deep jig, drop shot, shaky, c/t-rig etc. But for your senkos, spinnerbait, flippin, topwater, etc.. all your need is something with enough back bone and moderately sensitive. (THIS IS ALL AN OPINION I HOPE YOU DISAGREE, BACK IT UP)

If you go with something from shimano, starting with their convergence series everything has a lifetime warranty. So your best bet might be to go with one of the new compres or crucials. They Are high modulus im-9 and 10- high quality graphite. Man, you could get two or 3 of them for the price of a Cumara/legend/ dobyns/ mossyback. Avids a good option as well-lifetime warranty

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
