icefishingmn
What is the ice thickness around the whole MN? what county/city? where is safe ice to be on?
BronzeBrother
Nowhere in the South metro... Mostly skim ice at best...
OnAFly
I think most of ours in the N Metro got blown off last night. Good thing too with the snow coming. Hopefully we can just start fresh and have good ice though the year.
gurkster
yep - open water for the most part in my area.
otterman91105
Hopefully after this weekend and the little snow coming we can start fresh with some cold temps and make good ice.
deerminator
New London: I walked about 10 feet out onto our lake yesterday and started pounding on the ice with a rock. Cracks look like they're at least 3 inches thick, maybe 4. Yesterday, the open spot in the middle of the lake (500 acres) was closing up. I was going to check the ice again tomorrow with the hand auger and if 4 inches plus, considering putting out a tip up or two in the shallows (4-5 feet or less) not far out from shore. But I'm still fairly new to ice fishing and tend to be safer than sorry when it comes to ice thickness.
Vitreus
No ice in the st cloud area.
Feathers Rainin
Most of Northern MN has walkable ice. They have been letting wheelers out on Red for over a week. I would say anywhere North of HWY 210 you should be able to find smaller lakes to get on. Be safe.
tazimna
Have 5"-6" of ice on a number of lakes here in Bemidji area. Putting our 7x8 permanent house out at 2 pm today. Last year we had the house out on the 5th and caught 11 walleyes in 2 hrs on the 6th. Deja Vu hopefully again.
that_guy
I'm going to Mcgregor area this weekend to fish a small lake. I'll post back if I can how much ice is there. I'm hoping there is walkable ice, or I'm going to get real drunk on shore staring at the ice.
OnAFly
Sounds like a win-win!
Burbslayer
I think most of ours in the N Metro got blown off last night. Good thing too with the snow coming. Hopefully we can just start fresh and have good ice though the year. Thats all we can hope for now is that all the area lakes are ice free by tonight. sounds like heavy wet stuff coming all weekend. JSK76
Have 5"-6" of ice on a number of lakes here in Bemidji area. Putting our 7x8 permanent house out at 2 pm today. Last year we had the house out on the 5th and caught 11 walleyes in 2 hrs on the 6th. Deja Vu hopefully again. 2 houses went through 20 miles south of bemidji and I fished the one lake the day before and it had 5 3/4" the other lake is only 4' deep with a small 6' hole and typically has much more ice, so be careful! OnAFly
Lakes looked open around here. 43 and windy all night long, so I'm guessing we're starting fresh.
dan z
White caps rolling on area lakes, it'll be a while yet.

Fishin4fun_MN
Open water here in SW MN. Had ice before the warm up.
blackdog1101
For all practical purposes Lake Minnetonka has zero ice. Some areas freeze over, but then either melt, or break up from the wind. If this wind would settle down we'd get some ice going.
Rick G
Some of the smaller lakes around St. Cloud that had ice before the last warm up still are covered. anything in the area that wasn't compleatley covered is now just about wide open. coombia21
Up in the fargo area there is anywhere from 4-7 inches depending on lake size, depth and cover around the lake.
tazimna
We were able to put our permanent out on Movil yesterday. Walked out to check ice and it was in 6" range, so hooked the 4 wheeler up and pulled it with no issues other than extremely strong winds. Only fished for alittle while, but had first walleye of the year in the first 2 minutes. Ended up with 3 for the hour.
fishersofmen
Many of the lakes around Buffalo have a skim layer of ice over at least part of them including the one I live on. Looking out now it is completely white with this dusting of snow if we get several inches tomorrow night its gonna make for an interesting season. hunt3r
ya 6" to 8" is gonna suck big time for the ice
Ritt13
Most lakes around the metro of little or no ice at all, but from the sounds of how cold it's gonna get, it shouldn't be too long before we get some solid ice.
NKLCOLT1911
so has anyone noticed if the small amount of ice made it off the lakes in time for all the snow? any reports.
