That would be the buck of a lifetime for most of the guys I hunt with. He's a dandy. Did I hear someone call him narrow at 18" wide? If so I don't get that comment.

Most of the sign & actual deer I've seen lately have been well back in the woods, unless it was after dark.

I just realized it was Kunz_Josh replying about his buck being narrow & tall, but it was after the picture of the BEEG one. He was accurate in describing his buck. I'm a bonehead sometimes, no one who knows me is allowed to comment on that...

Here's the one I got on opening night. I've haven't had a pic of him or seen since the end of September. He showed up Saturday night. He came out into the field at about 430 then he started chasing a fawn around and she led him to about a 50 yds I put the bead on him and let it smoke. He then ran about 40 or so yds and piled up. We green scored him at 164 gross and 161@4/8 net my biggest deer ever. It was a good feeling to go and see him and actually be bigger than I thought. full-15319-27054-image.jpg

I honestly more excited the small patch of woods I hunt are starting to hold some deer. I have hunted it since I could (12 seasons now) and took my first deer out of there just last year. This will be the second out of there. Last year we changed to a hunters choice zone, which I like, I like to eat venison, and am not about the horns. I am also a firm believer the reason we don't have a lot of decent bucks is due to years of having shoot a buck only... This guy happened to be the first thing spotted from my stand during muzzy season. Had he been a decent doe, I would have taken it.

Now that this ground is growing thicker and providing good cover, My next biggest challenge is to manage trespassers, and the neighbors "mistakenly" walking threw the wrong sections...

If I can effectively accomplish this, I think within a couple more years I can have a safe haven patch for these deer, and no pressure them by driving them, and stand hunt only... and possibly within a couple more years have a spot that will have deer in it, rather than just passing threw after being pushed out of the bigger woods on a drive.

Sounds good josh, We have 80 aces that we keep quiet with, wat i mean is we dont pressure it, we have ag crops surrounding it, an neighbors that just love to shoot everything brown, so when the heat is on over there they just love to filter in to our safe haven an then its pretty sellect harvest of adult deer. never seem to have a problem of putting a deer in the freezer. If its quiet an has cover they will come.
